This type of topic is always good for a friendly debate as there is that many players that could play here or there and everyone always as a different opinion. Please post a team you think could line up in round 1 and talk about and review others. Hopefully there's a couple more big name players to come into the starting 18 between now and March 16th :)

Hope everyone enjoyed there Christmas and all the best for the New Year :)

Looks like we have some to choose from, and yes some more good news to come hopefully.

Two interesting ones.

Harrison Morgan, you have chosen in the ruck. Is he a ruckman and a realistic chance to play league? Played a handful of reserves games in 2011. What do you know about him.

Joel Houghton playing centre half back?? Do you think he can finally come on?

It does appear that despite a few losses we should have more depth in 2013.
Rather than trying to pick a side at this stage I would prefer just to consider the likely players in each line:

Defence:

Jacobs, Billings, Zucconi, Holland, Kane, Tedesco, Vidot, Hunt, Deaves,

Midfield:

Bevan, Moody, O'Sullivan, Bateman, Rogers, Ali Smith, Hodge, Leeson, Sketcher, Richardson, Florio, Manuel, Irons, Stack, Chrimes (one to watch imo)

Forwards:

McInnes, Tunbridge, Busher, Houghton, Reimers, Davis, Donovan, Edwards

Ruck:

Eyres, Morgan, Sandilands, Rowling?

Last I heard there is an experienced ruckman and a tall KPP (forward or back?) on the cards. Anyone know something???

Perhaps at times some players will used in different roles eg maybe Houghton will be tried in defence (hopefully he will have bulked up a bit and worked on his hardness at the ball), Davis and Reimers most likely to float through the midfield a bit, I like Moody in the midfield but he can also go forward when needed as can Bateman, Stack, Leeson and Irons, Zuccs can run on the ball or go forward as required, Morgan is a ruckman, I believe - untried as yet. Rowling untried also I have no idea what role he would fit.

What I will be looking for is commitment, discipline and focus from all players both on and off the field.

Heard a week or two ago that Busher wasn't travelling all that well in recovery and was being nursed through. Hopefully comes up okay by season start as big bodied, aggressive attack on the ball, capable of contested grad is what we need up forward.

Gee we need to find a ruckman quick smart I reckon. It's Eyres and not much else. If Bush is still struggling I hope there's a couple of KPPs still to be found because that squad looks light on for height.

Two other blokes that should be pressing for a league spot in 2013 are Yarran and Murray.

Stands about 198cm and 100kg's grom memory. Is a pretty solid looking bloke. I'm not sure though whether he is more of a key forward/back or is capable of playing in the ruck. With a physique like that you'd hope that he could play in both positions. I put him ahead of Eyres as I reckon he is a couple of pre seasons away from building up is body to compete as the number 1 on his own. Still deserves a place in the team but as a back up ruckman. Maybe we could have both play 50-50 or 60-40, that's always an option.

Joel Houghton playing centre half back?? Do you think he can finally come on?

As far as I know Joel has been training with the backs during the pre season. So don't be surprised if he plays down there early on.

I did the same thing as you did Smokey and put them all in lists like that. Ended up with a list of 33 or 34 players. I forgot about Tayler Chrimes aswell. He may be a little lightly framed but is a great endurance runner and repeated efforts from what I have seen.

Mr AFL, thanks for that.

There have been some terrific transitions (from fwd to back) over the years. One of the best of course was Graham Ramshaw.

I hope Joel can find the desire for the contest. He just doesn't seem to like the contest and doesn't go hard at it for me.

Plenty of talent though, just need him to come on.

I did see a couple of big blokes, so Harrison must have been one of them. Could be a good pick up if he comes on as he is only a one point for some reason.

I hope the footy department can deliver some more good news in the new year.

IMO we need at least 3 more players. One back, one forward and one ruckman!
