So is this clown working diligently and proactively behind the scenes and that now includes the new minister for health to get us ready for the inevitable omicron outbreak? McClown told us quite smugly that by opening on Feb 5 it will allow his government to see how things pan out in the states that have opened their borders much earlier.

The learnings should be:
1. make sure we are stocked up with rapid antigen test kits so people can get tested in the comfort of their own home and get instant results and take the load off the testing clinics and reduce the risk of passing it on to others in the queues and health care workers
2. reduce quarantine times to a minimum so the country can function again and sport, hospitality and the entertainment industries can get going again.
3. make it as easy as possible for West Australians to return home with minimum isolation times ie until a negative test is returned.
Spot on DD. In fact the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention revealed it had cut the recommended isolation time for people with COVID-19 from 10 days to five, followed by five days of wearing a mask when around others. But hey mclown goes by his own science and his health advice report that he wont release to the public. Such a dodgy character, always has been

Gtr it is almost futile and in fact just raises unnecessary fear quoting new positive cases as Omicron is probably less severe than the flu. Those are incredibly low numbers in ICU I think and most of those would be unvaccinated and or with serious underlying health problems.
"NSW also announced a further three deaths - all aged in their 70s, 80s and 90s, vaccinated but with underlying health conditions." -  from the waste today

DD just reading some interesting finding on any type of COVID varient. Both the US and UK + France have tried to live with the virus, with catastrophic results.
Modelling done be the University of Queensland + Epidemiology Public Health unit of The University of Nsw.
Going on Mr Hazzards modelling. With 1.5 out of 100 being hospitalized for a minimum of 10 days.Nsw has 20,700 hospital beds.25. % of all hospital beds will be COVID related within 6 weeks.
With the risk of hospital staff all being in 2 weeks isolation at that point. And wards being shut down. The worst case scenario could be double Mr Hazzards predictions.
There still over 400,000 not vaccinated in Nsw.And almost 10% of the population aged over 70.Theres still a massive target range for Omicron to attack.

Gtr can you dig up stats on the numbers of people including age brackets who were hospitalised and died from influenza to compare with these omicron infected patients in hospital prior to Covid-19?

I reckon hysteria over Covid-19 has prompted people to hit the panic button and rush off to hospital where ordinarily after a cough and a cold, sore throat, runny nose we go to the chemist first and buy some Lemsip and take a few days off. if things get worse we book an appointment with the quack who might prescribe us some antibiotics which will usually knock it on the head.

Nowadays its panic stations and straight to the hospital.
Get on your bike.

Great points GTRX,and can someone explain to me why this variant is considered harmless, and at this stage data suggests it may not be as severe, but it has still had the capacity to shut down multi billion industries, like the EPL where some players make more in a fortnight, than the average AFL player makes in a season, and some NBA players are on 100 mill.per annum, yet the latest variant has managed to disrupt their season as well

RL the head of the AMA said the other day.If you stand in front of someone who has this Omicron..You have a 72,% chance of catching it..So it must spreads like the common cold.
Everyone thought Delta was the last of it.But it looks like all authoritys have been caught with there pants down with Omicron..And to close down multi million dollar sports is huge...
The Epl normally play 4  fixtures in the xmas- new year period. Then early Jan go to the cups and international  matches. And the clubs work there January Transfer window.
