how does a 50 year old travel almost the length of NSW itself for over a week from Sydney while knowingly sick with flu symptoms then books himself into hospital gets treatment and refuses to co-operate with authorities racing to control spread ???

How ineffective is their lock down if 75% of new cases every day are infectious while out in the community?
What happened to not leaving home at all?

They have not had a greater Sydney lockdown.  They chose to only lockdown certain LGAs (local government areas).  Other areas could continue as normal.  As was to be expected with the delta strain, that is much more infectious, there were people out in the community that were infectious.  This has lead to more community spread that in turn leads to even more community spread.

Now the American Murdoch owned media outlets have turned on the NSW premier and health minister there is even less likelihood that there will be greater Sydney lockdown.

Berejokelian and "Health" Hazzard have been a disaster since day 1. The Ruby Princess fiasco should have been enough to see them step down without all the other crap they've been responsible for. They represent the other end of the spectrum to McGoo and Cooked who lock everything down whether we need it or not. Oh to have a Premier running the show who is neither incompetent as they are in NSW or crave the feeling of power by shutting everything down over 1 or 2 cases as we have here....someone in the middle would be good who looks after not only lives but livelihoods as well. .

Which is the better option: to lockdown too early or lockdown too late?

NSW is into its 7th week of "lockdown" and there is no sign of COVID-19 cases abating in NSW in the near future.  In fact, there is talk that the borders to NSW will be closed until Christmas.

Like the Governer from Tennessee last year BC? He refused to lock down his area even though he acknowledged Covid was killing his residents, his reasoning being people in his area had a right to go to work and earn a living

Early prevention of any movements is better than what is being seen in Sydney , and now elsewhere which was inevitable given the obvious void of intelligence and the daily non-compliance
Think the PM will have to intervene pretty soon it's that far from control

Reported on Sky News Australia a few minutes ago, NSW has recorded more COVID-19 cases during this spike period than they recorded for the rest of the pandemic.  The previous period includes cases from those in quarantine after returning to Australia.
