mikeh wrote: To beat Claremont, Swans will have to:

1. Negate their big man strength, especially Maister who killed us last time
2. Minimise the influence of Richardson and Bradshaw who always seem to pop up and do some damage against Swans
3. Provide them with zero space and put on a tackling performance similar to that against Subiaco 2 weeks ago
4. Hit targets in the forward 50 rather than just bombing it like they often did last week.

To make percentage a factor in the finals race Swans would have to have at least a 7 or 8 goal win but the chances are its going to be a nail biter decided by less than a goal if the last 3 games at Bassendean are any indication. Don't know if I can stand too many more of these heart stoppers :S

So looking at the checklist I wrote last week the swannies managed to tick most of the boxes

1. Our guys did a great job on Maister Seaby and Bradley to the extent that they were not major influences on the game. Andrews was their best big man

2. Richardson was one of the few Claremont forwards who kicked accurately but his influence was not vital. Bradshaw did not play of course which was good for us.

3. Generally the tackling was good but they did allow Claremont too many easy possessions coming out of the backline

4. It was a day where there was not a lot of good forward play on either team but luckily we did it a bit better than the Tigers on the day. Jukesy and Riddoch were good in our forward line.

Corbin Middlemas won me a couple of weeks ago when listening to Sat sports talk on ABC otw to the footy. The WPFC issue came up and Judge and Duffield being legends in their own teacup supported the WAFC Stand. So politically correct without giveing the full story and considering the issues.
Corbin defended the WPFC and bought up the real issues. He is like a dog at a bone and soon quietened the other 2. Because he knew what he was talking about the other two just went along with the WAFC arguement.

I notice quiet often Corbin comes up with different view to the other 2 on a lot of issues and is NOT AFRAID to give his view.

Love the guy as his heart supports the WAFL. The others if it is not AFL are not really interested.

Yep I heard the same show and Corbin was very strong in his defence of West Perth and his condemnation of the WAFC. It was interesting to read the Sunday Times business section yesterday which had a very well researched piece by Joe Spagnola which detailed the business links between the key players in this whole episode and the vested interests that the WAFC have in the potential management of the new stadium. This whole issue is a lot deeper than a spat between a few television stations

Pity I'll miss it BH. But that's what is needed. The so called local media is very poor. There needs broadcasting of more Wafl news etc etc. Hoping the local media starts to get a bit more involved and reporting on the seven Wafl clubs on a frequent basis. Not saying it should become a media circus.

WOW MIKEH that article is dynamite... I tried to get it from the Perth Now site... NOT FOUND. It is there but wont come up... After much searching I found it
Guess where? On the Advertiser website in Adelaide???? In there Sunday paper?
The WAFC is certainly making idiots of themselves.. I actually found an article in the SMH last week. They also consider this a a load of shit by our GOVERNING BODY

I also dug the article/paper out of my bin just in case someone is playing games if you catch my drift. I will put the link on the WPFC Topic and WAFL... It is a real eye opener. Great Graphic flow chart Joe did as well but not in article I dont think.
Might try and scan it?

Let's get this topic back on track was great to hear on the ABC Corbin conveying his memories of the marvellous scenes from Basso during and after the clash on Saturday ...spine tingling stuff and it is no wonder opposition supporters are completely jealous of the spirit that exists at the home of football- Steel Blue-Bassendean Oval. :)

BH thanks for letting us know about this afternoon's programme on the ABC. I didn't catch his comments this morning but I certainly heard his comments this afternoon. He was glowing in his comments about the game, the Swan Districts Football Club players', spectators' spirit and support and the atmosphere at Swans' games.

As glowing as his praise for Swans he was even more damning of the WAFC in its handling of the West Perth sponsorship saga. He was very critical of the WAFC reluctance to be interviewed and answer questions regarding the situation. He was similarly and very pointedly critical about having the situation championed by a Channel 7's stablemate in The West Australian.

To gauge the level of his criticism I would suggest that my criticism of the WAFC host club alignment decision was particularly tame and limited compared to Corbin's criticism of the WAFC this afternoon!!!

The time has come for those responsible for the decision to allow Channel 7 to dictate what, when and which teams they will televise to either resolve the situation to the COMPLETE SATISFACTION of West Perth and Channel 9 or tender their resignation with immediate effect and with NO golden handshake.

If BH or someone else is able to provide the link to Corbin's comments this morning and afternoon I think anyone who is interested in the WAFL should listen to them. Also, I hope to be able to send him an email thanking him for his comments about Swans and his continuing support of the WAFL.

Hi WAG, try this link

www.abc.net.au/radio/programitem/peKzLjARMQ?play=true

Go to the 29 minute mark of the broadcast and you will hear Corbin's comments.

Also some edited highlights of the radio broadcast

Fantastic publicity for the WAFL competition, wish the ABC were still doing the TV as well
