For that matter how many years did they all spend at a wafl club?

Its all confected outrage, moving the colts to WAFC control wont make one iota of difference to about 99.9% of footy followers in this state.

The WAFL clubs will be concerned about their bottom line,as long as they dont lose out and gain financially they will go along with it. On the face of it there will be sfa difference colts will still play in club colours and premierships will be awarded to respective clubs, games are already played at diffeerent times and venues to league so whats the big deal there. Sffc colts have been training all over the place ever since the purple peanuts moved in.

Back in the 70s you would get a couple of thousand supporters get there early to watcb colts and reserves it was an intergral part of the day, that was 30 yrs ago now, how many people go ealry now? 10.

We have certain directors on our board who are only there to run their sports management business , i.e. to sign up new talent from the colts before they get AFL drafted , as far as Im concerned this will get those sharks off our boardand we can get those genuinely interested in furthering the club.

A lot of kids are sucked into the Afl system so early they barely know what their wafl club was ever about.

Do u understand the district model bh? Plenty of kids have come through whitfords and played on MacDonald and have gone on to AFL. Next time your down at MacDonald there is a wall of photos of all the players who went onto AFL.

Good on them.

Who were they?

Luckily for the VB's and the like they had those 5 years of quality development at WP to mould them into AFL players!

Bazza how about actually attending a game you would then realise more than 10 people watch Colts football.

Are u seriously questioning whether community clubs produce AFL players....... Here is a little secret, they all played at community clubs.

For mine this is the biggest change if you could call it that out of pretty underwhelming report.

Sure the season will be shorter, but as long as they preserve key fictures , ie as long as there are still 3 derbies each year and they can condesne the fixtures down to the best match ups , it could be a good thing, the less popular fixtures get the flick, as far as Im concerned the fewer games in Mandurah and Joondalup the better from my point of view for South, a focus on better attended games means running grounds with a tiny crowd could be financially wise.

Have you spoken to any of the players on how they feel about a 10% pay cut?

Why are you assuming there will be a cut? Have you considered a top up payment for the games played to make up for it, what if the clubs former colts budget is directed into league players salaries that allows for higher payments and higher quality recruiting?

Kennedy was part of EF Mid West talent academy/ EF under age squads as a youngster alongside Ryder etc...plus played a year of actual colts and a few league games for EF before going to Carlton.....so pretty sure Kennedy has had at least a 3 - 5 year connection at EF...enough for the guy to always return to EF when ever he can to help support the club....this sort of connection will be gone under the new structure....

Lets be honest, fewer and fewer players are coming back to their Wafl clubs freeze, whilst I agree it was a nice tradition and allmost expected, ie Peter Bell , Farmer for us. Its a dieing concept, look at Crowley and Jones.

Of course, they can't be drafted otherwise, now that's all about to change!

Look at Gault, look at Bennell, look at Ellard. Note especially Ellard who made the commitment to return to Swans 2 years. Also, Bennell who insisted his contract with Swans be honoured despite the host club alignment. And Gault would be very happy returning to Swans and re-uniting with PJ.

You forgot the likes of Bennell, Pearce, Gault, Ellard, Ugle, Blight, Banfield, Notte, hopefully Eades & Yarran just from my clubs list this year alone!
Hardly a dieing breed not going back to their WAFL clubs when finished at AFL level!
