The 2 alignments will """generate more interest in the WAFL""" according to the so called commission. Wafl attendances will increase we were told. The Wafl has generated so much interest, even the mainstream media totally ignore it!

Correction apart from East Perth all clubs had a lower net average balance which means all clubs are going backwards financially.

No mate

The 9 team colts comp remains.

WAFC staff will be in charge of coaching, talent development etc.

In truth, in many cases they already are or at least rubber stamped by the commish.

There aren't that many coaches available....not much will change....the WAFC people who do come in will quickly realise that no talented players go unidentified in the metro area. There are simply too many WAFC, WAFL staff, talent managers, development managers, scouts, coaches already in place for talent to go missing in the metro area.

Hopefully they focus on building up the participation rates in the areas where footy has lost a presence. That's the big problem in WA. Big population but relatively low numbers of boys playing the game.

Right on point here LH, very few fall through the system currently in place. A lot of talent disappears simply because kids don't keep the discipline but this is the reality of current society values, something the AFL will never have control over....you can't control free will, only educate and hope the kids find the right path.

I couldn't help but notice Peter Sumich at the SD colts huddles yesterday appearing to monitor the coaches??? Anyone aware of his current role? Noticed him at SD v SF the week before but assumed he was there with Jacko as his wingman watching his kid

I am sure Sumich is the state under 18's coach.Someone to confirm.

All understood c22. It could be seen as nit-picking but it's great if one lives within the metro area. No footy on the radio for the rural folk I'm afraid. Thank heavens for the Internet and sites such as this to view Wafl news.

Not much should be read in to that right now Chaddy...we are in the middle of a recession...every business owner I know is jumping puddles in the current economic climate...why should local footy be immune to the current crisis WA society and football patrons are facing eg Barnetts 40 odd billion of deficit he gained us with (please don't derail this topic with politics, just want to use this as an example of the greater financial struggle)....in retrospect WAFL clubs probably haven't done too bad to not go under considering what is happening in the world of construction, retail etc.

Kennedy was part of EF Mid West talent academy/ EF under age squads as a youngster alongside Ryder etc...plus played a year of actual colts and a few league games for EF before going to Carlton.....so pretty sure Kennedy has had at least a 3 - 5 year connection at EF...enough for the guy to always return to EF when ever he can to help support the club....this sort of connection will be gone under the new structure....

Lets be honest, fewer and fewer players are coming back to their Wafl clubs freeze, whilst I agree it was a nice tradition and allmost expected, ie Peter Bell , Farmer for us. Its a dieing concept, look at Crowley and Jones.

Look at Gault, look at Bennell, look at Ellard. Note especially Ellard who made the commitment to return to Swans 2 years. Also, Bennell who insisted his contract with Swans be honoured despite the host club alignment. And Gault would be very happy returning to Swans and re-uniting with PJ.

Then maybe you should tell Crowley to hit the frog and toad then.

Peter North wrote: I'm surprised giving Perth the flick wasn't one ofthe recommendations , lack of attendance to Perth games is not surprising considering how shit they've been over the years on a par with Peel before the alignment

The mind boggles why the WAFC have gone out of there way helping Peel out while one of the TRADITIONAL clubs is left sitting on the bottom of the ladder year after year with no change likely in the future .

Have to say so am I, the recommendations all pretty mild tbh, Peel a bit of a Gold Coast GWS type scenario, WAFC s creation so are locked into saving it for ever and ever to save embarrassment. Should never have been voted in.

None of the clubs are financially viable long term, Subi can survive for while given what they have saved , but with the cash flow drying up time is ticking for them as well, the alignments will save EP and Peel, South have a new revenue stream via its head lease at Freo Oval , apart from that they are all cactus long term dollar wise, the article in todays paper was piss weak, there are no merger offers on the table at the moment and the report said sfa about them. Until the WAFC come out with some cold hard offers , no mergers will take place. However will clubs be secretly be putting feelers out to see whats on the table? My guess some will be.

Crowley is at SD becuz they offered him his desired start in coaching which has eventuated after the Essendon delay albeit at PSA level. As a player he doesn't have a lot left in the tank, I doubt he will play 10 games in 2017 before hanging up the boots but as a coach who knows, the future is in front of him. Bit different to these other guys who clearly still have/had a lot of football in front of them on coming back to SD.
