Townsend's article was spot on, hopefully the WAFC numpty's will take some notice along with the G7 presidents.

LH has nailed it with his comments about the junior comps being the key to participation and therefore more quality ending up in the colts. I like his idea of connecting junior footy with schools, especially now with the big push on womens footy, it becomes a PC imperative to push the barrow for youngsters of both sexes to get involved in the game. While I'm no huge fan of the AFLW, the positive side effect will be that the Mum's who end up making the decisions on what sports their kids play who currently see soccer as a less "dangerous" game will start to look at footy again, I think it will help lift junior numbers quite significantly.

If the Education department and the WAFC both direct funding to the combined Schools junior FC approach it cant help but boost participation numbers and that strengthens all levels of footy from Auskick to colts to WAFL and for the very small elite group that make it ... to AFL.

The idea that the only measure of a successful state football system is based on the number of 1st round draft picks, is elitist rubbish, the only real measure should be participation rates, something that soccer is beating footy hands-down at the moment. Maybe the Boston report should recommend that the Commish look at why soccer is so successful.

SANFL did their review 3 or 4 years ago , could have been earlier too - they knew Westlakes was a dead duck cost-wise & the league was struggling to foothold things
Decision was made to bury a decades long hatchet/hatred thing with the SACA & redevelop Adelaide Oval as the 1 venue for all to share , sell the millstone VFL licences & keep their competition integral & untouchable
Gain those vital funds for perpetuity
They keep their underage stewardship entirely with their members
And lastly they knew the Vics wanted to eat them alive & gain their kids unhindered

Note: This is not a peddle to sell licences , however if it keeps the WAFL integral & ensures survival then it has to be considered.

Thanks Southerner that"s what I was alluding too.

I agree with the thought that everything is on the table including the issue of the AFL licences if it means that the WAFL is retained in it's current format.

I've made my thoughts known about the AFL Licences on this blog a number of times, they have got to be on the table.

Well the report says it's about $$$$ and WA kids for drafting - that is the nuts & bolts of this report , no mention of the future of the WAFL clubs other than mergers are not off the table - right?

I agree with Senior Seagull and the suggestions around links with schools and clubs, and about the impact that Women's Football might have on general participation rates.
The WAFL clubs should also get on board to build a community link from the School/Club to the WAFL. So again, not just a matter of taking WAFC money but use it to build the WAFL brand amongst the kids.

Under the terms of this report - AFLWA takes complete control of pathways , that means schools , junior comps whatever the youth level is - everything.
There is no chance in hell WAFL will be let near the AFL brand in any form & anything that involves footy here in WA pretty much has to go past the WAFC(AFLWA)so that is a clear indication we can effectively rule out taking initiatives on your own
And this does not discount how good those ideas are by the way guys ;)
