Swan the clubs had all made their opinions known 2 yrs prior that was they were opposed and would not agree with a stand alone reserves, the issue faded away and then they came back with the alignment model , once again the clubs opposed this deal, this was widely known and broadcast, Raitt wrote to the WAFC stating clearly they would not agree, no vote was taken, it was not needed the council of presidents had already held a vote - the impasse was well known.

Contemporaneously three clubs made an approach to the AFL clubs (despite this) expressing an interest in being aligned.

It was then up to the WAFC under it constitution to break the impasse and make a decision to finalise the matter, it chose to give what the AFL Clubs wanted. That announcement was made to the remaining clubs, who then set about negotiating a financial deal.

Remember the current deal expires in 2018, and requires minimum 20 month notification of any change prior to expiry.

Until the WAFL can find some a financial model that will de couple it self from the two AFL clubs there is no chance of it regaining any real say in its own future.

Dazzler from my calculations the two AFL clubs currently pay $4.525 Mil each year to the 9 clubs , Peel and EP getting slightly less , however have a huge bonus in off field support, i.e. coach paid for etc.

I agree the two AFL Licences are the most valuable asset held by WA football, and the WCE are officially the richest sport club in the entire country and the dockers are listed in top four or five.

WCE currently have $52,000,000.00 in assets mainly cash. They will spent $11 Mill on Lathlain.

Its a pity the WAFC didn't think about publicly listing them at the height of the boom, it could of seen a massive funds raising.

I still think at around $100 Mill buy back by the AFL could be the capital foundation of a massively restructured WAFL to break free.

But the chances of the current crop of WAFL Presidents seeing beyond the next WAFC dole check are minimal.

Bazza welcome to the Emperor Barnett school of economics: sell everything you can and forego revenue streams in the future.

What revenue streams , scraps from the table as you always say, plus being dictated too? I don't get your mentality, on one hand you want to tell the WAFC to go jump on the other hand you want them to continue to squeeze your nuts.

Bazza I want the WAFC to start making decisions that benefit the WAFL not decimate the WAFL.

Its subjective - but either way will never happen for all the reasons already outlined already.

That 20 months should have been back in July this year if my maths is correct.
