Grassy you've got your one and only opinion as to why the WAFL is going backwards - bloody AFL teams! The AFL is here to stay and probably the AFL reserves teams in the WAFL. Your chicken little approach that the AFL sky is falling is hilarious!! Maybe step back and have a look at the other factors in play.

How about you answer the questions I asked earlier about funding etc. Bazza has given you a hand here. Also what did your club do with the extra cash that they accepted from the WAFC this season. I bet you they didn't bank it or invest it to progressively work towards providing Perths future financial stability?

Yeah there have been low attendances, these have been falling for a fair period of time. The last few seasons have seen accurate numbers supplied where as you'd have to question prior seasons records...always ~1500 people reported by most clubs each week. How many of these numbers were actually paying spectators by the time every bloke with a free ticket including players, umpires waterboys and canteen lady's were included.

The extra cash received by each club would far outweigh the decrease in revenue attributed to lower attendance rates. But the AFL alignment teams aren't the main reason for lower attendances. Fans don't want to go see their side get belted week in and week out. How do Perths attendances compare from seasons that they are competitive to all the years they've been cellar dwellers? You go on about Perths supporter base but where are they...I know we're they're not!

Let's look at the standard of footy across League, Ressies and Colts and why people don't want to pay $15 to get in.

Let's look at the Points System which has failed in reaching its goal of providing a more equitable competition onfield. A system that needs to be revamped along the lines of other Leagues Points systems, calculated on the 22 guys in the League team in any given week not manipulated across the whole senior squad.

But let's get rid of the AFL teams, do we take away the funding that keeps your club and the competition afloat?

Now you've booted them out and returned the WAFL to the halcyon days of the 70s & early 80s with better attendances I guess you can get on with your other big life choices?
Maybe you'll upgrade your 3 on the tree HQ to a modern Commodore with a floor shift or maybe you can discuss the pros and cons of Beta vs VHS vcrs with your mates over a pony of Swan Premium?

Grassy wrote: You tell us Redlegs. You seem to have the figures, readymade Pal.Almost as though you knew,or well briefed.By the WAFC?Their Media Apologists!

You tell us!

You are another goose who makes Assumptions on what I think.I NEVER once said the WAFL Clubs don't have problems of their own making.I NEVER once said they were without Fault!

But you seem to believe I think they are without Fault!WRONG!

Here's the Nub.Whilst I acknowledge the WAFL Clubs have an annual Grant, that should not make us Hostage to what is happening now, though it appears that some clubs are hostage to it,or have far too much loyalty to the Eagles and/or Dockers, instead of putting the WAFL 1ST!

Whilst that is happening,Yes,we are Stuck with the AFL Clubs in the WAFL and without doubt, because of this Disunity, are Dying a Slow Death Now!

Things were steady without the AFL Clubs in 2012.You want to tell us why bright eyes, things have gone to Shit since?Yeah, there's that one big factor as to why,it's staring you right in the face.SPLAT!Too late,it's already hit you and you still reckon, that's not a big part of it?Hate to be the passenger in your Car,if you're playing Chicken!

PERTH?We don't have a great support base,if they don't show, which is usually away games. Our supporters show up at Home games,no matter what and put a lot of money into the club, albeit over the Bar.Before you start with a cliched stereotype on footy supporters who drink,is there something wrong with their support?

Not too different to most clubs, methinks. We have had bugger all success since '77,but amazingly we are still here and there's more to it than just Handouts from your buddies at the WAFC.The Club works overtime to bring continued revenue in off it's own bat(it actually repaid back debt under Brian Lawrence and Co.Are Peel close yet after 20 years?),but just needs to change things regarding Onfield matters to get any chance of success kickstarted! We should gave been dead years ago,but we're still here, buddy!

As for the Competition,it IS in Serious trouble now, because the F.Sticks upstairs have made it so!You can go on with your hero worship of them if you want, but they haven't changed their stripes once in 30 Years. They still drive us 'round the Bloody bend.

You have your theories on why the Comp is Buggered now and I have mine. But don't get in the way of those who think the Host Club should go or we'll run you over at top speed,Pal!

I like how you mention theories in your last paragraph considering yours are all conspiracy theories.

I picture Grassy as more of a Swan Gold man actually...probably still has a stash of cartons in his spare room. Do Perth FC still serve ponies?

Surely not Bazza, no way you can get drunk enough off mid strength to have such delusional thought processes!

If he is a Gold drinker, he should switch to Swan Special Light, maybe he'll handle the 1% better.

You lost the arguement.

Really Pal,we could go on making claim and counter claim, but to save ourselves typing copious amounts of stuff, here is my message to you.

If you want to give up the fight and let us be F**ked Over by certain parties, you please yourself.

Don't get in the way of those, that won't cop the Crap from the WAFC,West Coast,Fremantle and of course, the AFL Commission.Or AWFULL as I can them.

The problem Grassy is that there is not a fight, is there a 10'000 signed petition from the WAFL fans demanding change? Is there a save the WAFL campaign that is real and that can have serious debate with the big wigs at the WAFC in a public forum?
The Nine clubs are happy as they are quite as a mouse. They are the ones that can put up the fight but no they do nothing except take the handout to shut their mouth.
Which fight is there that we are not seeing? not read about it anywhere, what is this so called fight and when is it taking place?

I love your passion for your want of yesteryear, but seriously the clubs have accepted it and while you don't have to accept it and are entitled to your view it is not going to change unless it is led by the clubs themselves.

This can only happen when a sponsor will cover what they lose from their handout from the WAFC.

If you have the answer then run with it and many will probably get on board, but you need the clubs first and until they are prepared to stand up then your's or my voice or anyone elses voice is just a load of hot air with nothing behind it.

Go to any WAFL match and find someone under 30 that is really passionate about their WAFL team. I'm sure there are some but not enough to grow the competition. That's the reality of it as much as it hurts me to think about it. It's time to adapt or die, there is a place for the WAFL but what that means going forward is not certain.

What was your clubs profit or loss last year?
How does the WAFC derive their income?
How much do WCE & FFC contribute to the WAFC's income either directly or indirectly? Royalty payments and facility usage. WAFC sponsorship incomes ie Domain Stadium naming rights. Domain sub-hire agreements etc

Lets look at the numbers or do you want to just continue to complain and blame the AFL teams?

I've been to far more WAFL games (400 plus) over the last 30 years than AFL games (under 50) so pretty confident that I can comment from an informed position. Not an AFL club member but I am a fully paid WAFL club member and have been since the late 70's. I remember Subi walking around at halftime asking for donations to keep their club afloat and understand the Subi Oval deal.

Are you referring to the WCE sponsorship of the WAAFL Colts and State football programs?

How accountable do the WAFL clubs and their boards need to be for the position the WAFL competition now finds itself in? Run financially sustainable clubs and therefore a sustainable competition and have a greater level of control, possibly even full control or continue to happily accept handouts, be dictated to and allow the integrity of the competition to be compromised.

Of course the WAFL relies on the two AFL clubs to survive. The WAFL clubs agreed to form a West Australian team to join the then VFL which later became the AFL and Fremantle was formed. The WAFL as a result of those two teams and the AFL draft has raped the WAFL of its best talent year in year out. And without a strong WAFL we would not be producing the second highest number of players currently playing in the AFL. And here you go off half cocked about how badly managed WAFL clubs are. It's a tough gig running a WAFL club these days and balancing the books and all clubs work damn hard to raise money through various fund raising events throughout the year.

Kill the WAFL or allow it to die a slow death it will come back to haunt the AFL and the two Perth AFL clubs.

mobile.abc.net.au/news/2012-10-31/eagles...fl-alignment/4343722

No doubt it is a difficult job to run a club but you do have to question the direction the WAFL clubs have taken. When given an opportunity to say no to the alignment, the 7 WAFL clubs said yes, if you give us an extra $100,000 each per annum.

This only further served to weaken any future bargaining power from their previously weak position in 2012. I wonder what the clubs will do in 2018 when the deal gets renegotiated...probably put their hand out for more cash compromising the integrity of the competition further?

Okay Redlegs a simple challenge for you. When did the WAFL clubs have a chnce to vote against the host club alignment? Which clubs voted for the alignment and which clubs voted against the alignment?

They were NEVER afforded that opportunity.
