I'm not impressed at all by this. SD have been royally shafted. I said in a post the other day that re-distribution of metro zones can be hard because, by and large, there needs to be some geographical proximity between zones and the WAFL. Giving EP Caversham blows that theory up. I reckon SD should push to get Esperance off Subi.

As for Perth... I had a look at SF list and discovered there is not a single player from Byford or Seville Grove. Is that because SF don't work that part of their zone enough, or because those suburbs are full of scrawny bogans? At least Byford could be described as a growth area. But Seville Grove is just an area that was excised from Armadale and re-branded to remove the stigma associated with Armadale. And Southern River is a bunch of boarding kennels at the back of Gosnells.
i think you are wrong about seville grove and southern river.Seville Grove didn't exist before 2002 because it was just a rural area of Armadale that was sub divided into a new housing estate unlike Westfield that was rebranded Camillo to try to remove the stigma. associated with the area.As for Southern River it does have kennels and a rural element but also a big suburban area as well.

Never mind the details of the suburbs. The bottom line is that all we have been given is a few extra suburbs in the same south-east region that has proven a recruiting wasteland for many years. Last year I pointed out that the only player in our senior squad from those suburbs was Byrne. Now we have Gray and John from Belmont and Queens Park respectively, but those guys are no world beaters. Had a look at SF colts. They have a handful of players from Mundijong, which is where I think Byford players go. It may help a bit, but not very much.

I cant believe this. Why penalise SD? - they are hardly a WAFL Powerhouse - 1 premiership and 1 other GF appearance in 30 years!
I have three kids at Caversham and live within 2 kms to Steel Blue. The only reason we played at Caversham originally is the relationship they had with the old La Salle JFC.  Basso JFC & old Beechboro JFC were a bunch of ferals so we werent going there.
They wont be at Caversham next year under East Perth rule.
In fact most of our team travels from well East of Caversham to train and play. We have kids from Helena Valley, Parkerville, Mundaring, Belmont, Darlington, Stratton, Swan View, Ashfield and lots in Basso etc
Like us they went to Caversham when they played and had Auskick at La Salle and have stayed at Cavy after the move due to the quality of coaches, pres and people. This will put a bomb through the club I reckon which is a shame

Perth need a club not just a suburb. I can't get my head around how they can get their brand out there in the Byford region when the kids in that area will play for Mundijong under the auspices of South Fremantle
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

While I'm no expert on the zones, I thought the kids were bound to a WAFL club via their residential address, in that case, if the kids play at a club outside their residential address/zone due to a re-zoning they need to find a club that's within their home address zone. If there's currently no club within their zone/home address then it's the WAFL club's job to get one up and running.

Surely Perth getting Byford is a huge win.....all the Byford kids will play for the SFFC funded Mundijong footy club, in the super strong SF/EFFC funded South Metro comp. Perth doesn't have to offer anything in the form of on/off field development and the Byford kid is bound to the PFC.....farking easy peasy if you ask me....

As for Seville Grove and Southern River....surely it's up to the PFC to establish a few junior clubs in those areas to maximize full development of these gifted zones......not sit back and whinge these suburbs don't have any footy clubs, go out and put some of that HJ money to use and establish a few new footy clubs.....you reap what you sow as they say....

it is not an entirely balanced redistribution and I believe it could be a bit more even - Swan Districts should be getting Mandurah's Bunbury zone and Subiaco should be giving up something somewhere

About bloody time. Byford is a good pick up. Big young growth area rapidly growing, Southern River is underdeveloped but might be the next Canningvale. One to watch. Muchea and Bindoon. Fk me how did they come up with that one? We jump over Swans zones and take the outer reaches of their zone. Why don’t we get Lesmurdie and Forrestfield instead? Good luck getting to training boys.

No change to country zones or that’s still under review?

muchea and bindon are not really metro.it is on the way to moora which is in perth zone and west of toodyay which again is perth zone so it isn't really a strange change.
