We need to break the connection between the WAFL and two AFL clubs, whatever the financial difficulties involved. While the present circumstances prevail, the Commission has difficulty in trying to run and balance each part of WA football; in relation to the proposal to have the AFL clubs in the competition, for example, it was unable to prevent the veto of all the clubs; the alignment was the second prize for the Eagles and Dockers.

The monies aside, the only benefit the WAFL has in being a part of the 'broad AFL system', if I may put it that way, is that one must play in the competition to be dratted.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the alignment agreements end.

They just will sign up a new agreement by stating that it's working great and that it benefits both AFL clubs. EP will drop off and Perth will take over the Eagles. Peel will continue will Freo.

Yep, that is the most likely outcome; it the position that most clubs support.

Ark my old friend the AFL clubs are bankrolling this competition. I don't disagree with you but are you prepared for a competition that will have less resources than country or suburban comps.

yep! The alignment with Peel is obviously working very well for the Dockers 0 - 9 !!!??? Not since the dark days during Damien Drum's time have the Dockers performed so poorly. Clearly the alignment is an outstanding success. Then again pigs can fly!

Hi LB, I too welcome you back -- it would be partly funded by selling the two AFL licences; but I do agree that the competition would have to find its level. For me personally, I would not really mind, but, I accept that some people whom support the WAFL would find it difficult. The main advantage would be that we would be able to control our own fate.

It worked for Freo last season. They will look at the alignment over the 5 years Custy not just this season.

I hate the alignment just as much you do Grassy. At the end of the day, they're not going to listen to us WAFL Members/Supporters.

AR if the WAFC had the guts to stand up to the Eagles and Dockers and said no the host club alignment is detrimental to the integrity of the WAFL competition then there would have been no host club alignment. However, that would take a great deal more courage and commitment to the WAFL competition and the clubs than they have shown thus far. Instead what we have is the following:

- a completely prostituted and jaundiced competition that has ALMOST completely alienated WAFL supporters

- we have staff employed by the WAFC to look after the interests of the WAFL competition and the clubs that are totally removed from reality.

au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/afl/a/31...crowds-down-in-2016/

How any sane, rational person can think that a 10% drop in attendances is and I quote "While attendance at games is marginally down" speaks volumes about the competence of the person in question, namely, Steve Hargrave, and whether he really has a desire to improve the WAFL competition.

- the TV deal is another reason why there is a disillusionment with the WAFl competiton - we have games at the bizarre time of 11.40 am on a Sunday morning; we have weeks when there is no television broadcast; we are required to pay for the tv coverage; we have colts' matches at 5 pm etc. etc.

I could go on but I think most people on this site know what is wrong and who is to blame.

Grassy wrote: He'd never say it publicly, but Steve's hands are tied mate.I'm not a personal friend of Steve's,but I reckon he cares about the WAFL more than what he is allowed to let on.

Ever wonder why Clint Roberts pulled the pin and even Dorrington for that matter?I've gone blank, but another CEO pulled the pin a few years back.

All probably banging their heads against a brick wall.

No I can't accept that Grassy. No-one but no-one could argue that because of increased youtube or WAFL online site access demonstrates that the interest in the WAFL competition is increasing when there has been a 10 % drop in attendaces is delusional. Secondly, one G Dorrington is NOW a WAFC Commissioner.

Perhaps Mr S Hargrave or G Walton's replacement can indicate how much money was spent on the DOOMED attempt to get the management role at the new stadium. Certainly G Walton's replacement would be well placed to be able to outline the total expenditure on that venture.
