Yep Bazza it is. I know it is hard to believe but from the start of the game to the end the crowd did grow. Most of the people were on the grandstand side of the ground which makes it hard to have a guess on the crowd figure for the match. Most people don't like sitting on the scoreboard side of the ground anymore and I would say that's because it doesn't get looked after like it used to.

Given the state of this year's fixtures; perhaps a consideration of the matches to be played when it is a stand-alone fixture without any WA domiciled AFL fixture that we play games which will draw the bigger crowds. For example, a Swans versus Perth game would be significantly better than a Swans Claremont match.

Certainly an interesting crowd figure for the Peel East Freo game. I watched a little of the highlights of the club formerly know as East Perth versus Peel during the half time break of the VFL game broadcast on the ABC early this morning and there was virtually no cheering when Peel scored a goal.

3500 at Basso this week with crowd evenly split between Perth and Swans
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

The 1610 start on Good Friday was brilliant. I would love that all the time - BUT, the lights were crap. Heard Freddie Clutterbuck saying on 91.3 that they dont care about the lights so much as they train in it all the time and would be happy for the bigger crowds...

Also, the coaches have in the past expressed a desire not to play on Mondays whenever possible. I'm pretty sure that was the reason for not having a Monday game this Easter.

Well it was certainly a failure playing Foundation Day Mondays in the past wasnt it ... do these clowns have any clues at all????

The coaches don't care about attendance figures. Only avoiding the short recovery time before the next match whenever possible.

Moreover, it is difficult enough to convince the players that even a Sunday fixture should be played. Simply because they don't want their Saturday Night going out or Sunday taken from them.

Unfortunately there are several forces at work when drawing up the fixtures.
: The coaches who whenever possible want 6/7 days preparation between each game.
: The players who see themselves as amateurs and want Saturday nights and Sundays to themselves.
: The club officials who really want to try different fixturing on Sundays, Mondays and at night but respect the opinions of the players/coaches.
: The AFL who have spread each round of fixtures out over an entire weekend to appease television - therefore allowing no stand alone hours for state leagues.
: The WAFL who call for submissions from the clubs when making the fixtures.

All correct points LH ..I just wish Swans would push for a Good Friday home fixture from now on as we would have had double the crowd that we ended up getting on the Saturday when your up against AFL games, work, shopping etc & it is now the ONLY day during the footy season the AFL dont play on so it takes away that as competition!
I have been to all of the Good Friday fixtures as a neutral but it would be good to be able to go watch my own side play for once & I know the majority of players are keen for it as it gives them the rest of the long weekend off.

There's definitely room for a day game and a night game on Good Friday.

Subi probably deserve to keep the night game as they began the concept when nobody else wanted it.

Maybe the day game could be rotated between the other clubs who want it.

BH it won't happen. As a matter of interest how many practising Catholics are there in the Swans' team? You won't mind if they choose to attend church at 3 pm rather than play a footy match.

With respect to playing the Easter Saturday fixture: stand-alone without an AFL game in Perth - pick the right opponent and you will see a sizable increase in the crowd numbers.

I would say there would probably be none at a guess S42! The sooner we start playing on Good Friday the better I say!
