I don't believe it has been caused by our win/loss ratio as we were 1/1 for the game against Perth and that game was poorly attended. A possible cause may be the 'host club scenario'. Another possibility was the problem with our first home game where the gate attendants were not briefed sufficiently as to the costs.

Perhaps some other people might have some ideas and whether it is a trend for most of the WAFL games this year.

I reckon its spot on as well, as I posted earlier looked very skinny to me and the KPI's were all empty, can bar, macca stand etc.

Across the board - its appearing to be a trend this year, not be unexpected the host club annoucnement has been a huge blow, to add to that Claremont are dominating, the derbies will be a good indication, but I fear with SF struggling not many will come along, next year when all the dockers pile into Peel you can expect the derbies to take a big hit.
More and more AFL games on TV are taking a toll as well, once the cold sets in it will be easier for the crew esp the older ( most WAFL fans) to tune into AFL on TV with a hot cuppa at home than all the hassle of getting to a WAFL ground

Yes, the fans don't like the host club situation. I know friends personally who probably won't go ever again.

Sadly, lower attendances won't sway the WAFC to change their minds about the set-up in future. They and the two AFL clubs will only ever think about reversing the decision if their own on field performances are affected.

If anything, if the attendance figures get too low, the two AFL clubs/WAFC will insist on taking more control of the WAFL - eventually to a point whereby the competition is unrecognizable.

From what I've seen, the Wafl attendances are down (so far) this 2013 season. Have only gone back to 2007 and the first 6 weeks of each season. And we find:
2007 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance for all games = 46,723 people. No split rounds.

2008 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance = 47,565 people. No split rounds involved.

2009 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance = 61,352 people. No split rounds were played.

2010 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance = 54,972 people. No split rounds for the first 6 weeks.

2011 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance = 50,190 people. One split round.

2012 tooka bit of a dive. (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendances = 27,938. One split round.

2013 (Week 1 to Week 6) Total attendance is 42,664 but I think the 2013 attendance figures (so far) are questionable?

Incredible figures WAG. 50,190 up to round 6 2011 and 42,664 in 2013 and 2012 was very low at 27938

So whats the story there? Maybe La Hincha will come up with a reason?

I guess we'll need to wait and look at the crowd figures at the seasons completion to see the overall picture. But numbers seem to be down on the corresponding time from previous years. That's going by the numbers I saw and considering almost a third of the way through the season. There is still much dislike of this alignment business which perhaps is turning some people away. But that's another story. Perhaps as the competition moves from the first few weeks into the middle of the season, the standard of matches may improve further and the attendances may rise.
Not sure of the crowd numbers in todays match at Mandurah where Claremont had a narrow win but a high standard of play from what someone was telling me.

I think some serious credibility to the fact the clubs are fudging their numbers on the gate so they can take some much needed tax free dollars $$

I would agree L. The actual attendance seems to differ widely from the 'official' version, so far. And this years crowd numbers will not be a true reflection. Will be difficult to get a proper handle on it. Someone previously indicated it's the clubs supplying the numbers. Surely a more accurate system of recording attendance figures could be used in this modern day and age, I would have thought?

I'm unsure where you got your attendance figures from but I'm assuming that you checked the official attendance figures from WAFLOnline. I'm also assuming that your total attendance for 2007 to 2011 are correct. However the 2012 total also didn't seem right. If you check the 2012 figures for rounds 1 to 6 was actually 45,628. Also the totals for 2013 as published add up to 38,462. This 2013 figure does not include three games from Round six that are yet to be published.

Another variable is the number of games played in the first 6 rounds each season.
During 2007 - 2012 there were 24 games in the first six rounds. In 2011 & 2012 there were 22 games in the first 6 rounds. In 2013 there are attendance figures for 19 games published for the first 6 rounds so far.

There have been questions for many years about the official attendance figures submitted by clubs. Are the rumours true? Who really knows?!

So based on the above the average attendance per game for the period 2007 - 2013 (Rounds 1 - 6) are:
2007 @ 1946 per game
2008 @ 1982
2009 @ 2556
2010 @ 2290
2011 @ 2281
2012 @ 2074
2013 @ 2024

You can read what you want into these figures but I suspect that when we include the attendance figures from the Anzac round and do a similar analysis for rounds 1 to 7 that the 2013 figure will stack up favourably with previous years with the exception of 2009. QED.

A good barometer for crowd figures at Basso is the size of the crowd in the outer can bar. If that is sparsely populated it indicates a small attendance and this has been the case for our games so far at Basso.

Certainly there seems to be a significant drop in attendances anecdotally so far this season.
