14.8 mil is a lot of rain in an 8 hour period . There was also a severe weather warning for the day which I can never remember for a GF day. So whichever way you put it it was still by far one of the worst weather days ever for a WAFL GF easily.

I've seen worse days. 1978 & 1981 come to mind. If you're a real grass-roots supporter you go no matter what - rain, hail or shine just like I do.

Subi played WP in '03 in atrociously wet conditions and we had around 21k attend, so no excuses for a little over half that attending last Sunday. Like WP, EP have traditionally attracted big followings but as quoted on ABC sportstalk their attendances are down 19% this year, that drop and the obvious protest non attendance by other footy people are the reasons. If EF played SF it would have been 25k plus or if the D's ever make a GF there will be 30k.

You should not underestimate the effect the weather...the cost (1 adult and 2 kids = $55 and the tempting alternative of watching it on TV. I barely missed a home and away game this year but I did have second thoughts about going. Most people considered the result pre-determined and so did I. Luckily I did end up going..best $55 bucks I spent.

$35 for adult entry is ridiculous. Should be a fixed $15-20 entry and with a bit of advertising would get a decent crowd. The average over the last few years (even during subi's premiership years) has been about 20 000. Think those days are gone now especially if we maintain the alignment clubs and charge 35 buck.

What would you call 10 inches in one day? Perhaps you should have a look at the 1978 GF. Such a severe weather warning that the WAFC taped off the upper levels, which are under cover, to create some atmosphere. I repeat the weather was not the reason that there was such a poor crowd for the GF. Purely and simply it was the host club alignment in concert with the price that ensured that most neutral supporters made the decision days and weeks before the GF to not attend the GF. Further if Swans and West Perth had not made the colts' and ressies' GF, respectively, the crwod would not have reached 5 figures.

Those points oobi are more closer to the mark. Football is played in the cooler months and rain is part of the course. After all, rain is rain. Doesn't matter if 2 mls or 10 mls falls during match day. Plenty of undercover areas at Subiaco Oval anyway. Isn't there? The weather is not the problem here. After all, Grand Final day is apparently the biggest day of the season.

Yep 1978 what a wet wet wet day certainly the wettest i can remember.
In fact it cost us the flag.

Anyway it was our last GF and i still have nightmares about that loss!

Have a look at this not only the weather but watch it through to the "the Buz" and his goal,he almost won the game off his own boot that day.
