Wow $35, if someone had asked me pre game the cost I would have said $20 tops.

I have not followed this alignment with the passion of some here, but my perspective comes from a discussion with my Uncle who has been a lifelong Royals supporter.

I asked him a question about East Perth shortly after the alignment was signed off, his reply was I don't follow East Perth any more, there is not an East Perth anymore.

Enough said on the matter from a man who bled Black and Blue

Very succinctly and accurately put kirbs as evidenced by the drop in attendance for "East Perth" home games.

Exactly .

Has to be said the Walton interview on the radio prior to Sundays match didn't instil a great deal of confidence.

Yep -- it has to come from the host club: EP; the same was true when Cl and South got rid of their alignments. The Commission will always back the Eagles and the other mob whom play in the AFL.

Just about all of them left after their respective games finished so there would have been around 8,000 left to watch the League GF.

And what happened to all those WCE supporters who were going to suddenly turn up to the WAFL each week to watch their aligned side play or so that clown Nisbett told all and sundry to get this shit over the line. Well Twevor we have just had our lowest attendance figure in a WAFL GF in 75 years & your beloved WART were playing in it as well!

Spot on BH, we arrived just after the start of the colts 3rd qtr and congrats to the swannies boys on their win, Good crowd of around 3k for that game, swelled to around 10-ish by the end of the ressies, then many of the Joondy Swans and Claremont people left. I think maybe 8k there for the league. Many will say it was the weather but I can clearly remember the 2003 GF when Subi played WP in equally atrocious conditions and there was I think 21k there. So the weather cant take all the blame. Yesterdays crowd was imho 75% Subi & anti alliance supporters, very few Ferals.

Listening to ABC sportstalk Saturday morning, they asked for Feral supporters to call in about the alliance & the GF, only two brave souls had the balls to call in and both hated the alliance and what it had done to their club and that a GF win would be a totally hollow victory. That goes on the back of sportstalk quoting that the EP attendances this season are down 19%!!

Then we hear that the SANFl get 38k and the VFL 25k to their GF's. There is no spin that can get the WAFC out of the mire they have created.

The supporters seemed to stay together with their own teams - I hate that in finals - no atmosphere ???
All EP where I sat SS - but I enjoyed every last minute of it - Bloody beautiful !!!

But please don't take the GF from Subiaco Oval.

It's the only chance these players will ever get to play on the hallowed turf.

Instead, promote the game properly, scrap the host club and charge a fair price for admission.

$35 is too much.

$35 !!!! You are kidding aren't you ? My god.

Sorry LaHincha but I can't agree. 35000 empty blue seats is the last straw. Subi Oval is a dead duck soon anyway, and those in authority won't do anything to promote it. They have killed it off with no shred of responsibility. It's that bad , the reality is there for all to see.

Exactly right, it ludicrous playing it at Subi now, the only reason it is played there is a legacy of the days when 50,000 would turun up there, no other reason bar crowd capacity , that is a long gone history.

Its even crazier to suggest WAFL GF should be played at the new stadium, by then the crowd will be down to 5000 at a 60,000 seat stadium.

It actually has a negative effect on the crowd and game, people will not go and sit in a morgue of empty seats and feel like losers.

Far better to have it at a smaller venue, Leedeville would be ideal, it would also encourage families to come and sit on the grass etc.

Bloody hell we are having state games at Woop Woop oval now, why not have the remnant WAFL GF at somewhere more suitable to its public status.

I remember when the WAFL set a minimum target of 20,000 for gf day not that long ago in early 2000s,,,in just a decade it has collapsed to half that,

MO leave it the GF at Subi.. If you have teams like SD, WP or a Freo derby, you would have 20k + crowd. Leederville oval and the town info structure could not support a crowd like that.

Sure it didn't look good on TV, but let's not run away and give up. Give the WAFC and WAFL management kick up the arse and get them to do their job and promote WA football.

Anyway in five years the WA Gov will have sold the land for restate, so there it is!!!!

No you wont not anymore , they didnt even crack 19,000 at a perth derby last year.

The biggest WAFL GF crowds now will be in the realms of 15,000 - 19,0000 and thats ALL going well ie a derby etc,,,Leederville could handle that. Heck they used to have 20,000 plus there now worries for a home and away game.

Have to disagree with you Bazza. What would the capacity of Leederville be these days? If the SANFL can get 38,000 for their GF with a smaller population tha Perth, we need to address the lack of patronage to the GF rather than just change to a smaller venue.

Also, the question if you were going to go to a smaller venue why Leederville Oval rather than Basso Oval?

Leederville is more central, its just up the road from Subiaco for a start, they have also completed some works there, the terraced banks etc, there is also two decent stands there for seating as well as two clubhouses for catering.

As a matter of fact Leederville was used for WANFL finals in the 1930's so already has a historic connection, My grandfather played for south in the 1930's and he played his finals at Leederville.

I think with a bit more investment it could be an ideal botique WAFl venue. Hanging in at a dead duck like Subi is just farcical, the crowds will not be flocking back Swan, the tragectory of attendances is only going one way, and it appears they are sliding of the edge of a cliff now.

And what of the TV coverage next year, if that ends the public exposure will be even less.

What we are talking about is a friends and relatives comp in a few years, that is the reality.

It s been apparent now that the powers that be here have no desire or appetite to promote or sustain WAFL as a hig profile second tier comp in the same way as the SANFL, this is a trend over 25 years not just 2.

Moreover the public have walked away not just in ones or twos but in droves, WA is an entirely AFL obsessed state, there is nothing any PR machine can do to turn that around now, its simply to late.

WAFL is purely about year to year financial survival of the remnant clubs who will shortly be undergoing revolutionary change if they wish to survive into future decades.

Leedervilles current capacity is 18,000 which is pretty close to ideal, Im sure with a bit more investment it could be ste at 20,000.

Once Subi goes every effort should be made to developing Leedeville as the cities second tier Oval venue.

Its a pity we lost Perth Oval , that would of been Ideal.

Not sure about the WACA, maybe that could be an option.
