We tip AFL & WAFL at work (and you can also include VFL & SANFL if you like) via ESPN's footytips.com.au Great site and took at all the work of running it yourself!

jardine wrote: the vfl is in a much worse state than ours, the sanfl is going better in terms of crowds and media respect. but they too are having their challenges i believe. we all are.

i too am from the old school but i watch afl and wafl regardless. i think we all used to watch "the winners" on a sunday night. now we get it rammed down our throat 24/7 which kills any local football content getting to the kids. the afl is a big bag of lollies for these kids, the wafl is a piece of broccoli its that simple. but it still is a crucial part of the footy landscape. extremely crucial.

but the wafl isnt dead yet. lots of kids and dads kicking footies at the grounds. maybe channel 9 and perhaps having the WACA as a new option is the shot in the arm the wafl needs. its a shame Gloucster Park doesnt run Saturday nights. i think having a double header at the WACA and the option of going to the races after for some punting and dinner is a great day & night out. just a thought i suppose. maybe we need to slip abit outside our comfort zones occasionally. But im enjoying the discussion about it all.

on another rambling note, i was always against host clubs (still are) and afl clubs in the wafl. however at the worst I would have preferred WCE & FREO having their own clubs in the wafl. it would have got these afl people to attend wafl games and given them an education on wafl football. that may have lifted the wafl profile and more importantly the respect.

Jardine I am at a loss to think how playing double headers at the WACA will help WAFL clubs generate revenue for WAFL clubs? Also, I am not sure when you were last at the WACA. The size of the WACA has been significantly reduced.

Stand-alone clubs would have an even greater impact on not only the WAFl but on other competitions which would be impacted by losing players to top-up the players for those stand-alone clubs.

Having put up with watching us play against Garth Taylor, Andrew Embley and Michael Clark it was wrong then and it is wrong now.

How is this for a possible scenario: The Eagles virtually take over the club East Perth and do irreparable damage and then cast them off and get into bed with Perth if they go ahead with their mooted development at Lathlain Park Ovel. Rest assured the devils incarnate, Eagles and Dockers have absolutely no interest in supporting the WAFL competition.

All good

Mandurah Dockers
Joondalup Eagles

One new team leading to

1)ten team comp with no byes - 18 rounds of foo=ty
2)two games coverage each week
3)integrity of traditional eight maintained
4)only one new team
5)bells and whistles of the states two afl teams
6)two comps - the wafl premership cup and the [BHP - or some such name] CUP
Mandurah Dockers and Joondalup Eagles don't play in the WAFL permership cup but traditional eight play in the BHP cup.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

I'm nearly 40 and I have only 6 mates I can count who I can talk wafl with. 3 tigers, one bulldog, and two sharks. And a swan but we're not talking at the moment..
A state of 2 million people and we follow two corporations dressed up as football clubs, boring

Six that's about double I know ,

TFAF why do you want Perth players playing against Perth in the WAFL?

When I was at school (I'm 49 - doesnt seem that long ago) Our teacher ran a WAFL tipping comp on a sheet about half the side of a wall. It was the most important thing - to get a gold star each week as the best tipper of the week, but to win the comp! Oh the dizzy heights I could only dream of. Being a Subi supporter I was destined to lose as I would NEVER tip against them (and they never won)

i understand where your coming from mate, i am only basing my opinion on the wafl clubs revenue not being compromised. maybe if there was a way costs could be worked so clubs dont go backwards. it would require a fair and honest arrangement with the waca, wafl and the club itself. not an easy task of course.

this whole WACA talk is only an off the cuff suggestion based on known talk going around. for me i just see it as an injection for the comp, something different and I say this also based on the game i watched on tv on saturday (falcons v souths). the crowd was just appalling and this really angers me. two great proud clubs with a supposedly bumper following. it was just dissapointing to see the place very vacant. and that is for all clubs. we deserve a better image i guess. we have some great footballers and some of the games are worthy of better. the WACA thing just may get a few people interested, maybe not i dont know.

just adding, do we just try nothing and let things keep slowly slipping ?

my worry is if we dont at least dip our toes a bit, all will eventually disintergrate. just a thought.
