If this rumour is true then you can bet your bottom dollar that the Eagles will want to rename your club as well.(hey so those Swans boys who put your future name on the scoreboard were prophets!!) You have a chance to make a stand but you have to do it soon. On another note if South and East Fremantle were to merge, what would they be called? Not Fremantle as they will already have a team in the WAFL?

You are on the money abt it being a warning but I go back to my earlier question abt constitutions, is still my understanding that the members have to vote in a name change, so we will have to wait and see on that one. If the majority do vote for it then sobeit!

As for a couple of other things, someone asserted that in the land of great and holy septic tank you can move franchises at will, well you cannot, the presidents or owners have to agree, the NFL (who control everything even down to merchandise and funds distribution have to then approve the move, so their control is even greater that exerted by the greek Mafioso.

As for the rumoured merger of EF/SF this has been around for quite a few months and rests on the moss street developments.

Someone also mentioned that Claremont just keep rolling along, winning premierships and producing AFL players BUT running at a loss, Perth can't win premierships and by comparison produce far fewer AFL players, quality notwithstanding, so who is right and better that the process.

Lastly the point about a sterile WAFL competition seems to be a bit harsh to me, it will still be the WAFL where the best young WA footballers will play and we can go and watch them, there will still be a link to the metro area albeit tenuous but it will still be there and the WAFC and AFL know that it has to be!

Oops one last point I thought the scoreboard issue was out of bounds!

Yeh mate... the future of the WAFL as we have known it is looking pretty shaky at the moment

And indeed are true comments because people have been dumbed down too much nowadays. For example, go talk about the Wafl to school children, their parents or any group of people and in many instances they wouldn't have a clue! They'd all stand back with a puzzled expression wondering what the bloody hell you're talking about! As I've been told, we are in the minority and don't matter.

Sad but true. I have two mates that I can have sensible WAFL football conversations with. Five years ago that was probably 5 people. You know the rest. When I was a kid it was everyone. How bloody sad. People think its quaint that I still feel passion for my WAFL team. I just tell them I never let the media tell me whats important to me and whats not. I also dont watch commercial news and current affairs shows. I am a dinosaur. I have zero interest in the AFL. I used to be interested in what Subi players were playing for the afl teams but not anymore.

the vfl is in a much worse state than ours, the sanfl is going better in terms of crowds and media respect. but they too are having their challenges i believe. we all are.

i too am from the old school but i watch afl and wafl regardless. i think we all used to watch "the winners" on a sunday night. now we get it rammed down our throat 24/7 which kills any local football content getting to the kids. the afl is a big bag of lollies for these kids, the wafl is a piece of broccoli its that simple. but it still is a crucial part of the footy landscape. extremely crucial.

but the wafl isnt dead yet. lots of kids and dads kicking footies at the grounds. maybe channel 9 and perhaps having the WACA as a new option is the shot in the arm the wafl needs. its a shame Gloucster Park doesnt run Saturday nights. i think having a double header at the WACA and the option of going to the races after for some punting and dinner is a great day & night out. just a thought i suppose. maybe we need to slip abit outside our comfort zones occasionally. But im enjoying the discussion about it all.

on another rambling note, i was always against host clubs (still are) and afl clubs in the wafl. however at the worst I would have preferred WCE & FREO having their own clubs in the wafl. it would have got these afl people to attend wafl games and given them an education on wafl football. that may have lifted the wafl profile and more importantly the respect.

I've said it all along jardine, when I talk WAFL at work, all I get is blank and disinterested looks. They all listen to triple j radio and watch AFL, I listen to music and like WAFL.....we're poles apart and that's how it is today.

And at my workplace the majority of people talk about the WAFL over the AFL would you believe! The only interest in the AFL is in regards to Dream Team/Fantasy Footy!
There is still a lot of interest in WAFL footy out there we just have to turn those people interested into spectators at the 4 games each weekend ..although the abysmal fixturing does make it hard for some to stick to the routine of watching their side each & every weekend!

Absolutely no body talks WAFL at my workplace , nobody even knows it s on, if you mention it you just a weird look of WTF?

The office is covered in AFL regalia , when was the last tie your workplace had a wafl tipping comp...probably 15 years ago.
