Rugby has a huge following in WA??? Surely you jest Cardy!!
The WACA was a great venue for WAFL footy back in the 80's & 90's but after they ridiculously demolished the historic Farley Stand & the old players pavilion they also brought the boundaries in about 20m at each end thus making it too small in length now for footy!

I dont jest my friend. Rugby League has a huge following here as much as you might hate it.. They get good crowds to the games the NRL puts on here and believe me more will come on board if it ever gets going again after the Reds fell down not because of the supporters or the Players of the day.
It will certainly be a big threat to the WAFL in the future if the WAFL does have a future :( Membership will be huge... Believe me

carry you are spot on mate, NRL will go off here now, there is no comparison with the reds period and Perth now. There's been a massive influx of queenslanders, new, kiwis and also islanders since then, it will be another tough competitor in the WA in what's a already tight market for the WAFL.

Cardy I have those material flags here at home somewhere.I have most club ones. Not sure where I got them but have had them since I was a kid. They are cotton or something from memory.Had them all on my wall as a kid.The South one took pride of place though.

Mate I wish the clubs would bring the Flags back.. WPFC put a few in the merchandise a couple of years ago and then they went off. I have a couple that I stick up on my Caravan everywhere I go.. It is my first job I do when we stop. I find it satisfying as you see Adelaide , VFL FLAGS everywhere you go... Me I stick up little WPFC Flag and you would be surprised how it attracts WA people and others who just want to talk about the WAFL and the WPFC.. Farken love it and it proves the WAFL is still known to af few..

Will have to talk to Brett as when I went to buy some more they sold out and discontinued the line... Dont ask me why

Heres a pic of the flag flying proudly from my Caravan...

Turn it up ..rugby league is as popular over here as womens lacrosse is!
In fact I have actually attended one of their WAFL equivalent a WARL game once last year & there would not have been more than 20 people in attendance ..all of which were rock apes as well I might add!!

The NRL will probably want to use a smaller stadium in WA I would think. Home and away season NRL crowds are not all that big compared to what they get for the majority of the AFL games.

Your big crowds are usually top of the table, or teams such as Brisbane or Melbourne.

The lesser clubs might only get 4,000 to 6,000 attend at the suburban grounds (which people here seem to love). The Raiders get around 8,000 at Bruce Stadium. The population of Canberra is around 300,000 then you have the outer NSW towns close too...

For the population size of Sydney, the NRL doesn't really attract as bigger crowds as you may think. It may be hard going in WA.

The City v Country game only attracted around 4,000 people in Coffs this year. This is quite a big fixture generally.

Mike.

They will use NIB Stadium for sure, it is ideal, they will share it along with The Force and Glory, I would imagine, it would grow far quicker and eventually have bigger pulling power than the glory, glory play over the summer so it should not clash although Im not sure about the force, Glory and the A league had to shift to summer as it was getting killed by the big leagues AFL and NRL, Im just wondering if long term Glory might be forced out of Nib by NRL and Western Force, doubt it if they play different seasons,
I think Glory only attract an average of about 6000 a game now, NRL will do better than that.

Correct mike the people on here talking up rugby league as big in WA are absolutely kidding themselves. As I said previously at their equivalent of the WAFL the WARL there was a crowd of no more than 20 at the game I saw. Those who say we have had a large contingent of Kiwis move to Perth should realise that rugby union is their game of choice (ask freeze) not bloody league of which they are already catered for here with the Force who struggle big time!

A/man is the WAFL going to be a 14 versus 14 player game in the future. The WACA ground is nowhere near the size it was when they played AFL games there.
