I'm starting to think this is both a good thing, and a possibility. What have we got to lose? The ABC have a charter to telecast - they dont have to promote it. If Channel 9 broadcast it they will want to make money so they will promote it - yes or no?
I think the ABCWA crew do a poor job when compared to the other states. I mentioned in another post that Tasmanias ABC had a pretty good highlights package on the 7pm state news. We dont generally get that. Have a look at the website. If you can eventually find your way to the relevant area - the other states highlights packages are generally up to date and quite comprehensive - not so ours.
I also heard a commentator on 91.3 Sportfm (who declared that he cant say too much because he works for Ch 9) that things were looking promising for them to broadcast next year. I think that was on the WAFL Tuesday show (Cardy will confirm)and was probably Tyson Beattie, but I came in late on the show.

And I should add that as a country viewer it always worried me that commercial stations would broadcast the WAFL, but I think that is taken out of the equation now with our digital service?

Think nine own Win TV so country may be covered.
The West now owned by 7 could make all this hard but they could cover the WAFL if they chose i suppose

From what I heard the details on the broadcasts will be known at the end of this month. The thing that troubles me is being bombarded with a trillion bloody stupid adverts when they are supposed to be broadcasting a football match! Yes, the 9 network will probably promote more which will generate interest. But the question is will it be a professional broadcast like the abc tv presentation, I would tend to say not? I do agree and have stated many times the wafl reports are very, very poor on the sports news. Why they cannot report on a wafl game being played down the road is beyond my comprehension! It certainly is very weak! Maybe if all the Wafl matches were played in bloody Melbourne, they'd get reported on during the sports report.
The country regions would be covered on Win tv.

Why on earth wouldnt the ABCTV want to broadcast WAFL footy? It would be probably their highest rating sports show especially compared to the other rubbish sports they cover like womens soccer, basketball, lawn bowls etc ..and the WAFL covers most of the costs of broadcasting it as well.
Maybe it might be a good thing for a commercial TV station to cover our great League!

Its a pity old Bruce Walker isn't with us anymore to Anchor Nines coverage, does anyone remember him? I wonder if they will get Thommo back in to do some commentary..maybe Readings will do some too. Were they also going to play at the WACA and only do games from there? That would be a shame and if that is the case I hope the ABC do it again

It all gets back to the same old age problem of money. How the hell it can cost abc tv 30 to 40 grand to broadcast one match is one of my life's mysteries. Or is someone havin' a laugh telling us it cost that much!? Or do they want to off-load it? That's the story as far as I can decipher is play games at the WACA and the commercial network broadcast from there?

Channel 9 do a pretty good broadcast of the minor NSW and QLD Rugby leagues. ABC has the Union, but very much like a ABC WAFL broadcast.

I hate to say it, best thing would be for Fox to pick it up. With the League Fox show 2 games of the Holden Cup each week, This is the under 20's comp.
