Archaic is a little harsh, but all WAFL grounds are the same or worse. Given the sunny forecast shade is an issue, Leederville has at least as much shade as any WAFL ground with the main stand, the 2 clubs members stands and the tin shed, plus I see there is a pop up bar stand in the space next to the EP rooms and the sport & rec building, next would be Basso with the 2 small old stands and the tin shed behind the goals, Joondy has less and Freo has the distant heritage stand, tin shed behind the goals and the members so any venue will be a slip slop slap event. There will be food trucks a plenty inside and outside the ground, dunny blocks in the SW pocket and behind the stand as well as those inside each clubroom, plus lines of temp dunny's in the outer which are not the most pleasant facilities, but any port in a storm I guess. Both clubs bars will be open and I assume there will be an outer bar, but if you cant get through an arvo without a beer then you have a problem. I hope the WAFC have enough sense to put up free water stations so punters can fill up and hydrate during the day. If not they will fail in their duty of care.
Maybe we should look at this as a throwback to the days that we all regard as the golden age of WAFL when 40k plus would crowd into Subi oval on those exposed outer terraces and the grass banks at the city end, but on a smaller scale. We all survived those great days whether wet or dry.

Dont care who wins apart from Subi stopping a trifecta in the ressies.

There's an article on Perth Now about the day and how it's going to be a festival of footy with street closures and performing artists and so on. It also had a shot of the oval and gotta say, it looks terrific if the photo was anything to go by.

Absolutely amazed there are still tickets freely available the day before the GF, with just 14,000 on offer, 2020 sold out in 2 days.

2020 had just 10,000 attend. How many more would they have sold without the quaint crowd cap is something we will never know. Obviously more tickets to sell in 2022 but what is clearly apparent is that Optus Stadium seems to be a draw in itself. People are not as stupid as the commission think they are. $30 to watch Joondalup and Claremont at a usual shit tip venue and they double the price to get in? That price though at Optus Stadium is justified and you don't get the feeling you have been had either.

A Leederville Oval GF might be a nice little money spinner for the commission but it is unnecessary. Not like they are hard up for money now is it? Where is the promotion of the game and getting people to come and watch a product that they may not ordinarily do.
Nailed it in a nutshell TE.
The other thing a GF at an archaic venue could do is turn people off the WAFL for good.
The days of standing in the outer, baking in the sun, at old run down suburban venues we all grew up with are over.
You will still get the WAFL diehards attend but next to no chance of attaining a new sustainable audience unless for nostalgia reasons.
Patrons are now used to modern, accessible, seated, covered, comfortable sporting venues eg- Perth Stadium, Perth Arena, Docklands, MCG etc at home and many, many others overseas.

If the days of standing in old run down suburban grounds are over..how come you turn up to bassendean each home game :)

you sure about that?
Quite simply...I dont stand in the outer at Basso!

Back in the day we all grew up in (60s, 70s, 80s) virtually all Stadiums around the world but especially here in Australia had majority proportions of the capacity being standing room, it was cramped, claustrophobic & uncomfortable but we knew no different back then it was the norm......but now thankfully stadiums have moved on for the better especially after the English soccer crowd disasters of the late 80s/early 90s where most stadiums became predominately seated.
I actually did stand in the outer on the concrete at the *Covid Cup GF of 2020 and it was bloody uncomfortable especially on the back...and there is no way known you could have got too many more than the approx 10k that turned up as it was shoulder to shoulder in the outer under "supposed covid restrictions" of which there were none....the SF ceo was kidding himself if he reckons you could have got 15k+ to this years game!

The WAFC must ensure that Optus stadium is locked in for next years grand final and the years after that. No matter which way you look at it, the occasion is diminished by playing the game on a suburban oval. Amateur leagues play their grand finals at WAFL grounds.

The game being played away from Joondalup should take 2-3 goals from WP; as others have said with aplomb, the Commission has been lucky  with the weather, a stroke of luck which will save them from a three or four thousand crowd.

Finishing top then winning the 2nd Semi final is a massive advantage for West Perth. I think Claremont will be up against it having played 3 finals in 3 weeks. It may be competitive for 3 quarters but I think a fresher Falcons outfit will run away in the last quarter

According to reports on the radio. If you don't purchase your tickets before 5 PM, Friday.
Your not going to the Grand Final. No cash at the gates admissions.Or online ticket purchases on Saturday.
So if only 8,000 tickets are sold by Friday afternoon. And 6,000 are walk-ups on Saturday, your not getting into Leederville
Would of thought West Perth fans would love to win a Grand Final at Leederville.
Everyone driving to Leederville be careful where you park.Town Of Vincent will be out in force with parking tickets. From a leaked source from the shire.
Crikey what a balls up.

No tickets available after 5pm today???

No gate sales,,, almost like trying to keep people away.

Agree with you 100% on the throwback golden era, that was how 2020 felt, and we always hear WAFL lovers wanting to go back to the great old days, well that was how it was, no better memories than standing on the concrete steps at Subi oval at a big final or up on the grass hill hammering down a swan lager from one of the beer caravans.  Copped a lot of sun and rain there, tbh Subi didnt have much cover in the 70s, about 80% of the crowd was exposed to the elements, and we had a ball.

BC isn’t the $40,000 relaying of turf really just a patch up job for the grand final and what really needs to happen is the whole surface needs to be dug up and dumped in the West Coast Eagles car park along with the bill and proper drainage and a brand new state of the art surface put in.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

BS , there was a tonne of room, you clearly have never seen the oval really packed, another 5000 easily, the area in front of the grandstand was near empty and the so was the members stand in some stupid neutral rules application. And it doesnt matter what you think 17,000 is the approved OH and S capacity. Well down on the 23,000 we got in 1979.

Hey BAZ  not like the Wafc to have a organized Train Wreck.lol
There's only 800 tickets left so it's 95% sold now. They can go home at 3pm ,they knew the tickets would sell before 5Pm .My guess is going on the Freo GF two years ago.
