They have picked Lake Leederville for the GF.

Yes despite not beng fit for H and A games they reckon all will be right for the GF.

and with a capacity of just 14,000 well below that of the other venues.

Oh well at least its central and has pubs around it.

Without the turf issues it was a no brainer to have it at Leederville this year as it will be a proper neutral venue. The surface has had a 3 week break and will have another 3 week break at the end of the H & A prior to the GF, so with a bit of luck from the weather gods and an intensive programme from the independent turf managers it should be up to standard. has good public transport access, parking and plenty of undercover seating with both clubs members seats, the grandstand and the tin shed all on the western side. Plenty of changerooms with the two clubs based there, excellent media facilities and it's smack in the middle of an entertainment precinct.

None of the suburban venues are ideal but you'd think it wouldn't be unreasonable for the WAFC to ask Subi and EP to train away from the ground from here on given both won't play finals. Apparently there's a heap of rain forecast over 10 days or so from this Saturday onwards so moving the last couple of games could also be an option. At least there won't be any finals played there leading up to the GF so hopefully the turf will come up ok. It was in very good knick at the start of the season but a lot of rain and overuse hasn't been ideal over the last few months.

Hopefully some undercover seating can be installed on the outer side of the ground to increase seating capacity. The ground won't be used until grand final day one would think. The surface should have time to recover. Hopefully - during the off season, hopefully much needed improvements/ refurbishments can finally come to fruition. Instead of more neglect. Just not sure why all the Wafl grounds cannot have works done to bring them up to scratch - wouldn't need doing immediately. But that is a story for another topic and another day.

It's almost like someone at WAFC is taking the piss, or is on Meth picking Leederville after this months shambles, and what about its farcical; scoreboard...

Why has its capacity dropped to 14K? Smallest venue with the worst surface - WAFC in normal brain dead form.

yes...good point about the scoreboard Baz. Hopefully they'll be able to instal a couple of temporary electronic boards around the outer.

I would of chosen Fremantle Oval or Joondalup over Leederville.
1.The playing serface
2.Heavy built up urban area.Parking tickets galore on GF day.
3.Was at a Foundation Day Perth Derby there a few years back.Around 4,500 in attendance. The ground had no available seating capacity that day..And there going to try and triple that crowd.
4.To all all entrepreneurs out there .We desperately need a 20,000 capacity oval stadium in this city. The mind just boggles at what there doing at the Waca.Holding the capacity of a south west county league grand final attendance.

GTR you make a good point about the WACA ground.
How on earth so much taxpayer money can be put forward to redevelop the ground into a boutique 10k stadium that will only hold domestic Sheffield Shield cricket and some womens games where there would be a crowd of 100 people tops is astounding.
The Govt before allowing funding of this project should have made it a priority that football also be based there, with the WAFC headoffices also forming part of this.
For it to sit idle for 6 months of the year and have 2 men and a dog attend the rare other fixtures there in the other 6 months is just not cost efficient, let alone utilising a sporting asset in the heart of the city.
The WACA should also only have control of the ground from October-March and football have the rights from April-September, as I believe the WACA charge ridiculous amounts to hold footy games there and also charge the media to broadcast from there on top of that!

Spot on BH. They could have made the WACA a multi-purpose 20-25k capacity facility which could accommodate cricket, footy with flexibility to also create a rectangular pitch for soccer and rugby games too big for Perth Oval but not big enough for Optus. It could have been used pretty much all year round with the occasional concert thrown in but once again those in power lack any vision or foresight.

I would expect leederville will have seating available for purchase in the whole of the main grandstand and also both clubs members seating areas along with the bench seating in the tin shed area, which would be more than most other grounds, certainly more than Freo and Joondy. Hopefully the organisers will add in some temp stands on the outer wing and behind the tech school end goals.
I understand that the WAFC takes control of the oval for the day so all seats should be up for grabs, probably some kept for the game sponsors and WAFC hangers on. Not sure what happens to each clubs social rooms and bar, maybe some Souths people can advise what happened in 2020.

Agree regards the WACA, if taxpayers money is being spent on the re-dev then conditions such as BH suggested should be applied and a min capacity of 20k.
