There's an article on Perth Now about the day and how it's going to be a festival of footy with street closures and performing artists and so on. It also had a shot of the oval and gotta say, it looks terrific if the photo was anything to go by.
BC isn’t the $40,000 relaying of turf really just a patch up job for the grand final and what really needs to happen is the whole surface needs to be dug up and dumped in the West Coast Eagles car park along with the bill and proper drainage and a brand new state of the art surface put in.
Spot on DD.  It's a cosmetic overhaul for the GF and as soon as we get a period of wet weather next year, it'll revert back to being a quagmire.  In saying that, whilst the surface will look good tomorrow it's all the other stuff like seating, dunnies, food and drink outlets which will be an issue.  The 2020 GF at Freo wasn't a great look on tv and I don't think Leederville will be any better.

As others have said on here, the game should be played at Optus no matter what and the WAFC need to pull their fingers out to make sure that happens from here on because playing the GF of the premier state footy league anywhere else is an insult to players, coaches, supporters and sponsors.

Sneakers has a 6 billion dollar surplice, time to pump it into a 2nd tear footy stadium, pick Leederville, Freo or the WACA do a good job build a place WAFL and rely on year in and year out. without road blocks at Optus or elsewhere, Glory are playing at Stirling this year so it's not just WAFL that is stuggling to find a decent back up venue.

There's only 800 tickets left so it's 95% sold now. They can go home at 3pm ,they knew the tickets would sell before 5Pm .My guess is going on the Freo GF two years ago.

yeah they would of banked on it getting snapped up quicker that this, just under 3 hrs left.

Weird that ticket sales would close at 5pm. What are they worried about? Losing count? Over crowding? Why is is not possible to count on a Saturday?

If true, sounds just as behind the times as the crappy venue they chose to host it.

Absolutely amazed there are still tickets freely available the day before the GF, with just 14,000 on offer, 2020 sold out in 2 days.

2020 had just 10,000 attend. How many more would they have sold without the quaint crowd cap is something we will never know. Obviously more tickets to sell in 2022 but what is clearly apparent is that Optus Stadium seems to be a draw in itself. People are not as stupid as the commission think they are. $30 to watch Joondalup and Claremont at a usual shit tip venue and they double the price to get in? That price though at Optus Stadium is justified and you don't get the feeling you have been had either.

A Leederville Oval GF might be a nice little money spinner for the commission but it is unnecessary. Not like they are hard up for money now is it? Where is the promotion of the game and getting people to come and watch a product that they may not ordinarily do.
Nailed it in a nutshell TE.
The other thing a GF at an archaic venue could do is turn people off the WAFL for good.
The days of standing in the outer, baking in the sun, at old run down suburban venues we all grew up with are over.
You will still get the WAFL diehards attend but next to no chance of attaining a new sustainable audience unless for nostalgia reasons.
Patrons are now used to modern, accessible, seated, covered, comfortable sporting venues eg- Perth Stadium, Perth Arena, Docklands, MCG etc at home and many, many others overseas.

If the days of standing in old run down suburban grounds are over..how come you turn up to bassendean each home game :)

you sure about that?
Quite simply...I dont stand in the outer at Basso!

Back in the day we all grew up in (60s, 70s, 80s) virtually all Stadiums around the world but especially here in Australia had majority proportions of the capacity being standing room, it was cramped, claustrophobic & uncomfortable but we knew no different back then it was the norm......but now thankfully stadiums have moved on for the better especially after the English soccer crowd disasters of the late 80s/early 90s where most stadiums became predominately seated.
I actually did stand in the outer on the concrete at the *Covid Cup GF of 2020 and it was bloody uncomfortable especially on the back...and there is no way known you could have got too many more than the approx 10k that turned up as it was shoulder to shoulder in the outer under "supposed covid restrictions" of which there were none....the SF ceo was kidding himself if he reckons you could have got 15k+ to this years game!

BS , there was a tonne of room, you clearly have never seen the oval really packed, another 5000 easily, the area in front of the grandstand was near empty and the so was the members stand in some stupid neutral rules application. And it doesnt matter what you think 17,000 is the approved OH and S capacity. Well down on the 23,000 we got in 1979.
Lol there is no chance you could get 15,000 into Fremantle Oval nowadays, the place couldnt even handle 10k in 2020.
You obviously were not in the outer.
As for 23,000 that was when there was no public carpark nor Dockers building at the hospital end that has reduced the capacity significantly.

The great ole blue and white year 79 was a bit before my time as a footy follower. Too busy in command of a large army of plastic toy soldiers back then. I am guessing they did not have the cordoned off bits of crumbling areas that seem a constant feature of modern times at Freo Oval. Can't fit people in there so that should be factored into estimations..

Yep completely agree but we would be foolish to think this isn't going to happen again. I think Leederville should be developed with a capacity of say $18,000 and complete surface ripped up and done properly and all those other things you mentioned upgraded and added to make it a fan friendly venue as an alternative to Optus when it is unavailable or crowd capacity doesn't warrant Optus, ie state games and AFLW could be played there. Upgraded lighting and a decent scoreboard would among the priorities.
Get on your bike.
