Basso capacity 22,000, is that still the legal capacity? Probably not more like 17,000.

22,000 would be incredible there.
With respect to the capacity of Basso now, I think a crowd of 20,000 would be possible. Some porta-loos would probably be needed stationed toward the Basso gates end of the ground etc.  It would make for wonderful tv viewing to see the ground filled to capacity.

20,000 there would be just incredible and an atmosphere would be terrific, vastly superior to a sea of empty plastic seats in a concrete bunker.
Let me make myself clear that in my opinion the WAFL GF should be played at the new stadium.

What would provide the better atmosphere?

Also picture yourself as President of SDFC for a day.

I offer you a Swans GF at Bassendean, a crowd of 20,000, a net return of $50,000.00 profit for the minimum win lose or draw.

Or a GF at Optus with no financial return to SDFC. or to be really fair an oblication to underwrite any loss incurred if you chose Optus.

take your pick

Imagine a Grand Final with a ground and atmosphere like this.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane Bazza.  What a pleasure to not see 36 players running after the ball all the time.  No kicking the ball backwards and players having the courage and confidence in their teammates to kick to a marking contest.  Ruckmen who can actually ruck and not just wrestle.  I could go on but I think most will get the gist.

PS Dodgy umpiring decision by Dave Johnson.

No problem , but my focus was primarly on the ground and spectacle as a future vision of WAFL GF.

the sad thing is we have now had decades of playing in empty grounds people tend to accept it as the norm.
That is why a revamped WACA with a capacity of 10,000 should NEVER be considered as the venue for the WAFL GF.

dont follow your logic there, while I agree a 10K capacity is to small one this is certain it wont be empty at 10K
It would be a damning indictment if the WAFC was to settle for a WAFL GF of 10,000.

I have already said that I believe that the WAFL GF should be played at the new stadium.  That stands even if the alternative was Swans playing in the GF at Basso.  I have also said that the WAFC should negotiate an agreement with the state government that does not put the WAFL clubs at a financial loss.  The WAFL players in the colts, reserves and league grand finals deserve it to be played at the new stadium.

Yep....I agree with 42 and STD. If you ask the players as they did last year, all said they had a preference to play at Optus as they'll probably never get another chance and it also befits the occasion. Also take into account spectator comfort. No suburban ground has the facilities to cater for 20,000 spectators even with temporary loos, kiosks, bars etc. It's still a very uncomfortable experience and an unnecessary one when you consider we have a state of the art $1 billion plus stadium available.

Good thing I am sitting down BC!  Is that twice we have agreed in 2021 and it isn't even May yet?

I don’t want to be a dick but of course we agree.

I honestly have no idea where Bazza is coming from? It is okay for WAFC or a beancounter to spout this nonsense but no WAFL supporter would, except Baz it would seem.
Both seem happy to ignore the fact thousands of fans could not go to the GF last year. Better looking at empty seats than looking for them  -  not that you got a seat at Freo last year mind you.

Bazza what if Elon Musk decided to pay $1bill to have the WAFL gf played in California as part of his staff Xmas party.
So long as price is right?

Or maybe gf of top footy Comp in the State should be played at top footy ground in State???
If Elon Musk put up 1 Billion to host a game anywhere the WAFC would be fools not to take that - great price & take it in a heartbeat to set everything up forever

And that’s why you’ll never be president of Swans zero nouce and would risk the club losing a mint.

Just because it wasn't the answer you wanted, it doesn't make it the wrong answer.

If I was President no more free lunches for the WAFC.

They have mass dinners at Perth Stadium you know.

Just after the footy season.

But can the Football commission be bothered to put the WAFL Grand Final Day at WA's showpiece stadium.
