Great work La H. Strong evidence that Perth, East Perth and Subi don't have great zones. Yet Subi Colts have been flying lately, so that's a puzzle. Also, as has been argued about passionately in this forum for years,Subi have dominated the Wafl since 2004.
I know what people think about that. But it is interesting that Perth and Subi seemingly start from the same Colts base. Perhaps we do train harder. (Just joking)
I have suggested the opposite above, Subi being a coastal club etc. Perhaps there have been changes in recent years in the subi zone for the better, despite east of Wanneroo rd being "dead".
Just on that, didn't the most successful Wafl player in history come from Balga junior footy club?
I'm confused by Subi's recent success also. I've looked through all the numbers...tried to find an answer.
One thing stood out.
North Beach JFC, a Claremont club on Subiaco's border.
In the last 3 years Subi have had many many colts players from North Beach. Before that hardly any which was a mystery in itself. This year Subi have 9. Claremont have 5.
Yes, I know this happens at Kingsley also.....it's our club but so close to the WP border that many players belong to them. Always been that way.
This never used to happen with North Beach. Something has changed. I don't know what. It's made a difference.
Has the club been handed to Subi without any publicity? Were the North Beach folks previously not being upfront about addresses? Allocating players to Claremont without letting the WAFL know exact location details?
Or did the WAFC employees sort out something that Subi folk couldn't?
I would like to unravel this mystery.
But gee whiz, it helps having an extra Sorrento-Duncraig suddenly in the mix.
Good pick up La Hincha and a pretty simple answer.
North Beach JFC is a Claremont zoned club but the boundary changes to Subi just a couple of kicks to the north and also east of their home ground.
North Beach JFC had only about 50 kids playing 20 years ago with a much older demographic in the area and the majority of kids in the area playing at Sorrento or Carine and some also at Karrinyup.
Fast forward and the area has been rezoned with lots of old 1000m blocks sold off and subdivided with younger families moving into the area. The 2 primary schools either side of North Beach JFC are packed and Marion Primary up the road is too. Karrinyup Juniors moved east of the freeway to Stirling AFC (Balcatta). The football facilities at North Beach, with $11m spent there about 7 or 8 years ago, are amazing and now NBJFC has over 800 players.
The percentage of players going to Claremont or Subi from North Beach probably hasn’t changed but the volume has changed significantly.
Subi get the benefit because the majority of the area NBJFC pull from sits in Subiaco zone - northern part of North Beach, Karrinyup, Carine, Waterman's Marmion.
Where as Claremont get the southern North Beach and Trigg domiciled players (did is use that correctly 42?)
