The vista of blokes holding tinnies in the outer not do it for you BC? It did look a bit too ramshackle on the box - shame to see the comp reduced to this.

Yes...not having a crack at SFFC who I think did a terrific job in pulling it all together under very difficult circumstances but playing the GF at a suburban ground to save some coin is just unfathomable. The SANFL must be laughing themselves silly at the sight of a GF crowd sitting on concrete steps.

Having the Grand Final at the best ground in the country and making money at the same time is just too high a climb for some. Unfortunately the some are the ones who are meant to be running things.

I have seen a helluva lot worse standard afl games this season PH.
But a lot of those games like the WAFL GF yesterday were played at suburban venues (Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs etc) where a howling breeze and inferior surface diminishes the playing standard!
Something for the learned crew at WAFC HQ where most of that money ($12 million pa in salaries) you speak of is actually poured, to consider when choosing the GF venue!

I actually thought it was a very good game and pretty high standard. Pressure on the ball carrier was immense with some big hits, high marks and clever goals...shame only 10k were there to see it live.

Beautiful day for footy but for 2 and a half qtrs possibly the worst standard of finals footy I've seen for some time, but then Claremont woke up and the game suddenly became super intense and a couple of goals were actually kicked. Exciting due to it being close but the standard was average at times, quality footballers like Bolton and Main shone out above the rest, but Souths did what they had to after a poor final round game and getting thoroughly beaten in the 2nd semi and got the chocolates. Claremont were very brave in being able to work their way into the game, pretty much 1 key player down with Mitchell unable to have an impact after dislocating his shoulder, shows how tough this bloke is. Congrats to Souths and the Souths faithful, been bridesmaids so often, so enjoy this one.

Congrats to EP in the ressies, a dominant unbeaten season, should indicate that EP will continue to push up the ladder.

Best game of the day was the colts, open skilful footy with plenty of goals, at least by Subi, they had the method and game plan that took a very good Claremont side to pieces especially in the second half. I liked that even though it was almost done and dusted at 3/4 time they didn't take their foot off Claremonts neck and ran the game out strongly. Obviously a well coached team. Young Vanirsen is a gun, Clarke medallist, Whinnen medal to go with his premiership medal. Unbelievably apparently not much interest from the AFL but after a big finals campaign he must be looked at. He gets another chance in the 18's allstars games coming up. Qhite a few others in both teams that will get their chance. Quality footy that showed up the league game big time.

Thankfully this clusterfuck of a season is over, we look forward to a full 18 game (hopefully) season in 2021, with ressies in place including Peel, no change to the salary cap so WAFL clubs can attract some of the many delisted AFL boys that will be available and a new commission that is the polar opposite of what we have had to endure for 3+ decades, a commission, like the SANFL that believes in, promotes and supports our historic WAFL competition, and a proper Grand final at the best stadium in Australia.

I reckon the ground being full added a lot of atmosphere to the day. Live, the game was a bit constipated at times but really tough, hard fought. The final quarter was gut wrenching. Strom giving it to the Claremont supporters was a highlight. Kane Mitchell's bravery another.

The 70s/80s scenes at the end of the game were fun. No one being mob tackled by security guards.

No advertising during the game was another plus. The music was well chosen and played at a sensible volume. Minimal idiots on the microphone.

The ground is beautifully placed near the markets and pubs. All in all, I think the wafl made a good choice. Next year is another year. Why not it aim for 15 000 at Bassendean, Leederville or Fremantle.

That's because they want athletes not footballers. Doesn't always work best that way, I would think it would be easier to turn a footballer into an athlete rather than the other way around. Look at Liam Ryan!

BH and all, my original remark was not meant as a piss take on the two sides or the WA-FL, the game was played exactly the same way as it would be played in the AFL -- defensive tactics where the game becomes ugly.

One of the best grand finals in recent memory. Classic wafl. High standard, two evenly matched teams.

Beautiful game.

AFL is a bore because they recruit athletes rather than footballers. You have Higgins who would never get a game in the AFL but is a premier ruckman with smarts. Wafl has tall men, short men etc which the AFL doesn't. AFL players are just all the same, like robots.

I saw the whole game on TV and it certainly was a great contest. Momentum ebbed and flowed between the two teams throughout and there was only one point where I thought Souths might run away with it and that was in the first half of the third quarter but the Tigers, led by Bolton stopped the flow and got back in front by 3 quarter time. The last quarter was then a total battle of attrition. Boltons performance reminded me a lot of Krakouers impact in the 2010 Grand final apart from the fact that he was on the losing side. The lowlight for me was listening to a significant number of cretins who chose to boo him rather than recognise his brilliant effort to keep Claremont in the game.

I come back to the same question that I ask every year, why has Bolton not been given another opportunity with an AFL club when he is much better than many who run around on rookie lists in that competition? Probably too late now.

Congratulations to Souths for bouncing back and winning the flag after last years humiliation.
