Great atmosphere. Fantastic playing surface.
I can’t be bothered weighing into the Optus stadium debate but reckon if we could get 20 thousand into a suburban ground it’d work well. Members guaranteed tickets. What would have the biggest capacity now, Leederville?

Yep all good points, mate, yes I would say Leederville would be the biggest now, you would get close to 15-20K in there, a bit of work, lifting the surface, also a decent score board (bigger) apart from that its pretty good, the narrow gap behind goals is a bit weird in a big crowd, it also urgently needs some decent entry points, although with scanned tickets that easy now through a large gate. Good area as well, bars cafes, and easy on the train.

I think they rate Leederville at around 15k, Basso, Freo and Moss St at around 17k, Joondy 15k, lathlain and Cl around 4-5k

Wouldn't be hard to set up additional temp stands on that roadway along the outer wing at Leedo for a few thousand extra seats. Leederville would have the best player facilities with two clubs stationed their, has the big carpark at the top gate, short walk to the train station and heaps of pubs bars cafes almost right outside. That being said, it should be at Optus.

If 25 000 want to go, then yeah Optus is a no brainer. If 18 000 want to go, why not make some money and have a great time at Basso, leedy or Freo.

'Taking it to the community' means people in these 'suburbs' seeing 15000 -18000 fans in club colours excited to be at a packed event. Not to mention the tv audience and the news.

Ironically, that is more likely to grow the wafl than a half empty stadium.

Correct Johnny

I see the WAFL made a 250k profit on the day that’s a 350k turn around on Optus, bloody smart move in tough times, that 250k Shared among the clubs will be a real bonus in the current climate.

Looking like a big push to redevelops Freo now realign the oval , Build a new members stand get the Dockers Women’s team there and Upgraded capacity to 20k to AFL standards.

Could work well.

Source please? 250 K shared equally among the clubs would be a real bonus - slightly skeptical this will ever happen though - and certainly would help to offset the hundreds of thousands of dollars the WAFC has cut from funding to the WAFL clubs.

lets see, what would people prefer - to sit on concrete for 8 hours or in a seat at one of the best stadiums in the world.
they were lucky the game was close, if it was played at Fremantle oval in 2019 they would have been 100 people left in the last quarter.

And this season having the lowest attendance for a Grand Final I've ever known. Got records written down going back to 1979 and cannot see any lower. Yet in a few weeks time, we'll look over the nullabor and the SANFL (whom are not as backward as us) will be playing their Grand Final in front of 20 to 30 thousand spectators I'd expect.

Even your own victorious coach the day after the GF said he and the players would have preferred the game was at the Stadium where a much larger crowd could have attended.
The majority on here concur as do the majority of WAFL supporters only the deluded odd Bulldog supporter wants the gala day of WA footy to be played on a suburban ground.

Just out of curiosity who’s paying for these massive upgrades??

Yeah the Coach said that but the players said otherwise, they preferred it at Freo.

If you look at Social media the General view was that day went well and most preferred it to Optus, and that was the view around the ground on the day. the media was pretty positive as well.

Ozfooty is a tiny sample portion. Have a look at the Claremont thread, three grades in the GF and hardly a word. Wouldn't use it as a indicator.

The GF Gate is always shared with the clubs always has been - wtf are you on about?

Last year the clubs got nothing as it was a loss.

Have you heard of Covid? Will this years AFL be a record at the Gabba?

Haha, dont worry celebrations were bigger than ever with thousands at the ground, straight to the club, bloody awesome night in the club, way better that 2009 or 2005.

AND we have $50,000 plus reasons to extra from the gate takings! 100 reasons - go jam them!
