Yes AR after having thought about it I believe we should have been back playing WAFL this long weekend and with crowds albeit numbers restricted, social distancing required and all other covid-19 guidelines adhered to.
We would have been able to have got a full season in then as well but alas.
They are now back playing soccer in parts of mainland Europe-Germany, Belarus etc...Asia- Korea...the NRL started back last night, the AFL will start back on June 11 and these are all being played in places with dreadful coronavirus numbers compared to us here in isolated WA.
And why are we playing the WAFL GF a week before the afl gf we should have been playing after theirs to take advantage of the footy starved public, now it will just be lost in amongst all the other Vic centric comp finals.
As much as I despise the bloke the WAFL desperately needs a strong leader like V'Landys who wont be pushed around by the afl self interests and over cautious politicians and health officials!

[size=]if we had wafl this week you would have every man and his dog trying to get in.
although a nice idea I think a little naïve

Chaddy maybe you missed the highlighted above part of my original post eg- meaning for club members only!

meaning no girlfriends, wives, parents, relatives, friends, sponsors.as much as it would be great to have wafl back we need as many paying customers and sponsors to be able to attend and have a decent crowd and clubs to make some money.

Most of those you have named above you would think would already be club members so they would be able to attend.
Until it is unlimited crowd numbers allowed at sporting events again the club membership crowds only (eg- restricted numbers) would be a good way to reward us loyal long standing members whilst also getting those who are really keen to see some football if financially in a position too possibly buy a membership and thus helping the clubs finances at the same time.

BH, the clubs need to be a bit creative as well by offering discounted membership fees for this season for new members so those with limited finances could join, then a certain percentage will consider resigning for a full season next year at full fees, a suck it and see philosophy.

I see Perth Zoo is opening up next weekend with unrestricted numbers, why aren't the clubs using that to force the lip wristed hands of the WAFC pussies.

At times it feels childish to gain pleasure from the old comp. The league no longer a shared interest of society, fit only for the out of touch and superseded. It's a bit like currency. if no-one believes in it, it's worthless.

Hopefully, it can be kept alive. It's frustrating because Covid is an opportunity to for wafl to be a shared interest again, with the AFL teams stuck on three gold coast in front of empty stands.

Great post. Whole heartedly concur.

And the Wafl suffers another lost opportunity!

To make it even worse, when they do come back we are getting 16 minute quarters, just like the AFL rulers. It is pathetic the way the WAFC just follow them even defying any logic in their decisions. Why on earth do they need to play 16 minute quarters. It’s not like they will be playing more than one game per week, so why. We have been deprived of football this year because of the virus and now they want to lessen the games by a further 20%.

This current lot at the WAFC have not got an original idea, strategy or plan amongst them!

Their idea of how to run the WAFL is to see what the afl are doing and then copy and paste and or just do what ever Dill tells them to do!

Running the WAFL should be a great opportunity for a maverick young go getting sports administrator/sports marketing graduate (a la V'Landys 30 years ago) with new fresh ideas who isnt afraid to push the envelope to get what is required etc but alas.

They unfortunately long ago gave up at the WAFC and have just resigned themselves to being a second tier player supplier for a Vic centric comp instead of shooting to become a genuine market competitor to that Vic led comp.

Spot on, BH!

Where have all the go getters gone?? The problem is that the WAFC has become a group of yes men that had their balls snipped at birth

Making the wafl distinct from the afl in a good way would be a good place to start. Some wafl games are tortuous to watch for the lack of ball movement.

I'd look at 17 players, maybe 16, or 5 interchanges a quarter. I'd try the later first. Free flowing attacking footy should be the wafl's selling point.

The problem is the WAFC - read Eagles and Dockers - being in charge of funding and promoting the WAFL when with the way the whole business model is set up there is no real incentive for them to do so. Basically the Eagles and Dockers are in charge of funding and promoting a league that supplies players to their 17 rivals.
If the WAFL was actually an Eagles and Dockers zone they would nurture it lovingly. Of course this will never happen.

The wafl does seem to be at the mercy of the system - eagles, Dockers, AFL. More than the sanfl.

That said, the other advantages the Wafl has is that you can go to the footy every . You don't have to go on a train. It's cheaper. There are two sets of supporters. They play at different ovals. You can get closer to the action. It's less corporate.
