Clubs have been paying players for ever it is not a recent thing and no clubs have folded because of it and there would not be half the money being paid out today as there was say 10/20 years ago when clubs had triple the bar turnover compared to today and there is as much money being paid out if not more in the lower grades than the higher grades.

Agree to disagree sbelly. Probably in a grade there was more money 10/20 years ago but in the lower grades money wasn't a big issue back then. For sure with the drink driving the bar turnovers are much lower than 10 years ago, but i know definitely clubs are working harder at sponsorship now than before. I believe when the sunday league teams came over was probably the start of the money becoming an issue in the lower grades with obviously some going down that path hence where they sit and the others not having the cash flow they had in the sunday league. My club never had issues from clubs in other grades especially lower grades targeting the better players with incentives it was always the country leagues poaching players. Maybe the player pool was much bigger then and you didnt have to target from other areas like you do today. But our better players are regularly targeted and especially the ones that go to a wafl club usually dont come back due to a better offer and it is more often than not to play at a higher level quite often it is dropping a grade. Agree probably not many clubs have folded because of it but its a dangerous game to play when your best players are only there for one reason and lets be serious are we a amateur footy club or a work place.

I believe a points system has been brought up at WAAFl meetings by one of the ex Sunday league clubs.
From what I have heard, the top level clubs and some of the committee of the amateurs are dead against it as will hurt the higher/richer clubs
I personally think it would be a good idea as it will even out the league and encourage peolpe to play at their orginal club.

The Points system has been brought up a number of times. A couple of A Grade clubs have pushed it for a few years with little response from the League. Has some merit as puts pressure on Clubs to look after their juniors and colts and focus on development. If clubs want to pay under the points system then they are going to have to be a lot more selective on the players they pay.

MrM has Wanneroo invested in a new deep fryer this year or just using all the $$$ you made from hosting the Whitfords v North Beach 3rds GF for player recruitment?

Having played in the South West comp for cash and now back in Perth at my original club (unpaid - too old and slow these days) the points system works and means payments can be given but obviously high value players attract big points which makes sense. Clubs are paying players in all grades, better to regulate it than try and pretend it doesn't happen.

Well if Wanneroo was able to keep the money from the gate takings (sadly the WAAFL takes that money) then it would have been a lot better. No need for our deep fryer to be replaced. It's only 3 years old.
I think all of "the bar" money was put into getting new footy jumpers as some players are still running around in the woollen jumpers.
In terms of player recruitment Wanneroo has hardly done any. Only a few local products coming back and wanting to play with their mates..
We did have to find a new reserves coach after our previous one took up the League coaching role at Noranda. So maybe that's where they money went.

Turn it up, you should change your name to Mr Modest. The Mitchell freeway is not like the Berlin wall, we do know what is going on over there with player recruitment. Join the dots.

You must know something MrM doesn't unholytugboat?
You shouldn't listen to rumours. As I've said before MrM doesn't dabble in rumours or innuendo.
I guess we will all find out Round 1. Or when clearances come through.
