All I know is that there is a lot of brown paper bags being handed out this year. It seems worse this year than in the past.

Make recruitment impossible when players want you to match cash payments they are getting paid at other Amatuer clubs.

You can never trust rumours King. MrM has heard similar rumours but yet to see any evidence.

Not a big fan of Wanneroo? Trust me come along to a game grab yourself a ROO burger and some hot chips and you'll be fine.

As for The Shiz. I love a good brown paper bag. Usually inside comes a pie or a sausage roll and that excites MrM.

Sounds like Wanneroo should be flying this year if even half of the rumoured recruits turn up.

Have to agree with you Shiz the brown paper bags are getting a lot more popular and it seems the if you can't beat it join it motto is well and truly starting to take over amateur footy. From a club that supports the greens and doesnt believe in cutting down more trees, its getting harder to retain the top end players and definitely attract any if there are aren't any nice incentives. The loyalty has been lost in the afl to the dollar and its starting to figure in our comp that best offer wins and im here to go to work not play footy with my mates. The bigger and well run clubs will always have that abundance of players to deal with it but the smaller suburban clubs will get hurt. When you hear teams in grades as low as C3 are offering golden hand shakes and at best average footballers are on seek searching footballers wanted its a worry for our comp. At the end of the day i can get a trophy made up on ebay "Legend Grade Premiers 2015" for lower than $10, its the memories of the hard work with mates that makes it special.

well if the association doesn't do anything about it, lets face facts its been happening in A grade for a long time, then most other clubs will get on board. Its the system, you need to win to be promoted, the only way you can win is to get the good players to your club.

WAAFL should have done something serious about this years ago, they have made this beast, and they have to live with it. I don't support paying players for 2 reasons

1) Why go up with that player if he wont be there next year - clubs tend to get belted if they haven't got good juniors going up so to pay players to get there is fraught with danger
2) it sends clubs broke, why should members have to pay more for beers etc just to pay fees

How much do they charge for a beer at Wanneroo now Duck? Lynwood charges $3.50 for a full strength one, I'm sure I paid more than that at Wanneroo the last time we were there

Being in A grade last year we didn't nearly have as much of an issue as opposed to being in B grade this year. Players wanted to play for success in A grade and play at the highest level. Now in B grade, >80% of players we try to recruit are being offered serious money at other B grade clubs.

At least the BOG awards have increased this year, we can now pay up to $500 per team each week with the maximum individual award being $200. Makes it difficult for the clubs that don't have a lot of cash to throw around though.

Sorry Shiz, shit excuse mate and I cant cop that, Its either all clubs in all grades can pay players, or none can. I believe the rules say none can.

Why is it fair to pay A grade and not the others? Players want to play for success and in the highest grade possible regardless of what that grade is, unfortunately not everyone is good enough to play A grade.

If you cant or don't have the money to throw around to recruit players because other teams in B grade are throwing around the cash then don't get upset at other clubs that have loaded up, go and screw your members over, put your bar prices and club membership up hitting your regular club members in the pocket more, chase more money through sponsorship, and measure up or risk going to C grade in the coming years if you cant fix this.

Also mate can I get you to clarify your first comment please which I have put below for your reference
"Being in A grade last year we didn't nearly have as much of an issue as opposed to being in B grade this year"

Does that mean your declaring on here that Whitford's did pay players last year???? Just asking mate its your statement and I'm trying to understand your comments

I think you misunderstand.

I never said it is fair to pay players in A Grade. Either there is a salary cap or the toothless tiger that is the WAAFL integrity unit needs to investigate more clubs and make an example of a couple of clubs and send them packing.

The BOG awards that I mentioned are allowed under the WAAFL by-laws - jump on the website and read them for yourself.

Whitford doesn't pay players.
What I meant was last year we didn't have issues with recruiting players as we were an A Grade club. They just wanted to come and play for an A grade side.

Now that we are in B grade, when we have tried to recruit players they have said that they are getting paid elsewhere and if we want them, we have to match what they are getting. These players are playing for other B grade clubs in the hope of an easy flag. It is harder to get them to the club as they want coin.
