Freezin wrote: no SwanDog..... good on all the WAFL clubs for producing AFL talent.......though longevity I reckon is the true definition behind this word talent......don't you agree mate?.....or is simply getting drafted....crashing and burning, in the blink of an eye, enough for some folk these days?......surprised Swandog, you are a fella so easily pleased! ......or perhaps so easily influenced?..... :P

Now Frezin if I didn't know better I would say you enjoy stirring the mighty black and white supporters. Your love/hate relationship with BH is legendary.

As I see it the problem is that some of the players get drafted way too early and would be far better spending a couple of seasons in the WAFL league competition prior to being drafted. This would allow them to mature both physically and mentally and provide them with some additional life skills to be able to cope with the move interstate etc.

I don't see many VFL games so my following comments are more on a theoretical basis rather than through observation. Corey Gault was drafted by Collingwood from Swan Districts with only a couple of WAFL league games' experience. He has spent the last two years basically playing VFL footy. How much better would it have been for him to continue his development as a player at Swans for a couple more years and then get drafted. It appears that he may be delisted at the end of the year.

42....totally agree with you mate.....for me too many kids are drafted too young and some unfortunately get shafted before their time......only having the banter with SD.....I know SDFC have produced many an AFL talent and will continue to do so.....hopefully all the other WAFL clubs can continue to doing the same.....

unfortunately as you say kids like Gault(SD/Coll), Eardley(EF/Geel)etc get drafted over east and promptly develop/languish in the VFL for 2 - 3 years.....and then more than likely get shown the door.....hopefully not though for their sakes...I do know the likes of Blight, Miles, Ugle etc suffered the same fate.....not too sure why Carlton only gave Twomey one season?.....at least a second one to prove his ilk....too much rotating door stuff for my liking.....can stuff these kids up long term footy wise.

SwanDog is just a little too black/white for me 42.....bit too SDFC biased....sometimes he must remember the WAFL could always survive if SDFC didn't.....not the other way round.....EP and Peel theoretically are gone/nearly gone and still we are going to WAFL games each weekend in winter......SD aren't the only club in this comp who get done over by the umps, produce quality players etc etc......sometimes I think your boy Swandog forgets that....thus the banter to keep him in check....nothing more nothing less.....BH is a legend....especially with those ex EF fella's heading to Perth footy club!!

drafting is only an opinion, not every kid can make it and as long as they give it their best shot there is no disgrace in getting delisted no matter what WAFL club they come from..
plenty of blokes get drafted and the WAFL clubs know they will be back in 1-2 years..

In words from Brett Raponis mouth last year at Basso he said to me and I quote "The WAFL needs Swan Districts more than any other club" Not my words, his, and I happen to agree with him. And I am not ashamed of my bias, but believe it or not in all truth I love all WAFL clubs as It is our heretage, but next year I will only love 7 not 9. I enjoy the banter and long may it continue! Carn the Ducks!

Freezin it is a well known fact that we, Swans' supporters, have one black eye and one white eye.

It certainly would be very boring if we were all in accord.

MO certainly being delisted is not the end of the world. Brady Anderson is a case in point: drafted to Geelong after only a handful of games. Came back to WA, won a Sandover Medal and then drafted by North Melbourne.

My point is that in many cases if the AFL club drafted players two years later there would be benefits to both the club and the player. The club would have a better idea of how well the player is developing and the player would have the benefit of a couple of years more experience playing and also life skills which would allow them to cope better moving away from their home environments. The other benefit would be to the WAFL club and its supporters who get to see the player play for thier WAFL club.
