Bit of a reality check happening for WA cricket in Sydney this week. First defeat in a one day fixture where they have been almost unbeatable in the last 2 years. Then being bundled out for 140 on a spicy pitch on day 1 of the shield game. Might not be a bad thing as there may be some complacency creeping in and nothing like a defeat to bring a team back to earth. Hopefully they can bat big in the 2nd innings like they did a week or so ago in Adelaide.

Wheels are well n truly coming off the Warriors wagon......no harm in a thrashing from time to time.....Philippe and Wyllie might need some 1st grade runs.....bit cocky perhaps playing a batsmen short.....even with NSW current win / loss ratio.....well done on young Ollie Davies and his century, hopefully one for the future for Aust..

This will be NSW's first win for nearly 2 years and will give them some confidence. Very disappointing effort from WA , there will need to be a bit of soul searching before WAs next game which I think is against SA at the WACA. Even on a tough pitch to be reduced to 6 for 34 is not acceptable  given that the opposition managed 270 on the same strip

still have one game playing but this result gives a tight ladder - all states have at least one win

I know we had an outright win there last summer but gee we invariably struggle at the SCG, especially with the bat!
To be knocked over for under 150 in both innings should be warning alarm bells as that is nowhere near good enough against a side who hadnt won a game in 16 straight Shield matches until Wednesday!
Their very experienced bowling attack of Tremain, Bird, Hatcher, Henriques & Lyon made a complete mockery of our batting which has relied on Bancroft, Whiteman & Hardie (out for this game) all season so far with very little support from Wyllie, Cartwright & especially Phillipe who's numbers are truly abysmal.
If Phillipe is going to continue to be the wicketkeeper in the side than he has to drop down the batting order to at least 7 if not 8 as he is definitely not worthy of a top 5 position currently in red ball cricket!

WA's next match is against SA at the WACA. The South Aussies are the big improvers under coach Jason Gillespie and they had a thrilling 3 run victory over Queensland the other day, so they will be on a high

Very tense days cricket at the WACA with WA falling over the line by 2 wickets after Goodwin, Stobo and Rocchiccioli held their nerve after the home team had been 6-105 chasing 201. This puts WA back on top of the ladder in the Shield but the other states have certainly closed the gap on them and it will be a real battle this year for the domestic titles. Certainly the Croweaters are much more competitive than they have been for many years and Tassie and NSW have also started the season well.
The only disappointment for WA was that Jhye Richardson didnt play in the game when that had been pencilled in after his last setback. Hopefully they were just being cautious with him and he will front up soon.

seem to have had more wobbly moments than they have for the past two or three years this season
it is very much understrength
but not getting a decent pile of batting or bowling points might end up being a home final gone
there is a lot that has been lost

One thing is for sure we have to stick with young Jayden Goodwin for the future as that was a nice composed innings he played under decent pressure at 6/100 chasing 201 for victory.
He didnt get flustered at all and was quite happy to give Rocchiccioli the strike and it looked like that confidence helped settle him down as well.
It will be interesting to see who the selectors go with when those in India (M.Marsh, Inglis, Green, Stoinis, Behrendorff) and those unavailable due to injury (Richardson, Kelly, Agar, Turner) are due back.
I personally would stick with the current squad plus M.Marsh, Inglis, Green, Richardson, Kelly & Turner added if available!

Who would have thought that at the half way point of the shield Tasmania would have been on top?
