Continuing the trend, WA were very poor yesterday in the Marsh Cup, outplayed by NSW at a ground that has been a fortress for them in the past few years. Admittedly they are missing 6 of their first choice players but there was still a lot of experience in the side and they just didnt perform, particularly with the bat. Could it be the classic "premiership hangover" or have the other states caught up?

This loss could be costly in terms of them qualifying for the final. The shield game starts tomorrow and they could also be a bit vulnerable to a revitalised NSW team  given the current form trend.

Not sure why we didnt pick either Cooper Connolly or Hamish McKenzie?
Unless both are injured?
Would much rather see us play these kids then some of the old brigade like Agar, Whiteman, Short, Tye, Gannon etc!

NSW only team to beat WA in Marsh Cup in two and half years but they don't seem to have any trouble doing it, that's the problem,

They knocked us over for 250 on Day 1.
Hopefully our bowlers can do similar today, although I see we have only picked 4 front line bowlers, with maybe Cartwright to trundle some down for relief!

Geez what were Voges et al thinking selecting Paris and Kelly in the same team first red ball game back aftet the hiatus?

Yes both fantastic bowlers, but Kelly coming off a long term injury playing along side Paris who has an extensive history of injuries. Now Kelly is done, meaning Paris will need to step up and bowl more, if WA are to get an outright in this game.

Surely playing Kelly in the one dayer, would of been more sensible prep easing the fella back in, with the last Shield game v Tas and a potential Shield final the ultimate goal. It's not as though Haskett or Gannon were injured....

Quite surprised you haven't jumped on this BH, really is borderline D&D logic....though Voges is a back to back winning coach in all formats, so I guess we need to cut him some slack, as success is how every coach/selector are ultimately judged...but seriously what were Voges and the selectors thinking?

No wonder D&D rested Bartlett from the 2nd ODI match v WI, especially since Bartlett was coming off an injury interrupted domestic season....sensible thinking I reckon.

It was a silly risky selection Freeze especially with no all rounder playing (Marsh, Green & Hardie all on AUS duties) and Kelly's lack of cricket this summer.
I have since heard both Connolly & McKenzie are currently injured as well on top of Richardson but yes Haskett, Gannon or Greer (Beardman is away with the AUS 19s at the WC) would have been the sensible selection considering Paris is also injury prone.
Our young bats (Goodwin, Fanning & Wyllie) all got an opportunity in this game to show their wares but barely scored a run between them sadly!

BH I can see Voges dropping 2 of the 3 youngsters(Fanning, Goodwin and Wyllie) v Tassie and plumping for some experience from 3 - 6. I see Green is back and Short scored a 100 v Tassie's 2nds. Philippe may get a promotion to 3, with Green, Cartwright and Short to follow.....and perhaps Agar to return, though if the game is in Tassie, Agar may not be needed.

Can Paris back up red ball games? Haskett and Gannon must  be certs to return. Pity about Kelly, as he is a very good shield bowler, always probing and on the money. Losing Richardson and Turner to injury has hurt, as well as Hardie and Inglis to meaningless ODI's/ T20s....though other states could complain as well I guess.

Unfortunately it looks like one of those years where nothing really goes to plan.
Non availability of players due to higher honors (Green, Marsh, Inglis mostly, plus of late Hardie, Morris), injuries (Richardson, Turner, Kelly, Paris, Connolly, McKenzie, Cartwright early), and maybe a hangover from recent success across all formats has lead to a lack of hunger at times this season?
Sadly none of the younger brigade have really taken their chances when they have been selected possibly except Haskett.
Roccichioli continues to improve.

yes it looks like its not happening for WA this year. Too much reliance on Bancroft and Whiteman due to a brittle middle order. Injuries which have crippled the bowling attack. National call ups, Younger players who haven't come on like they were expected to. Perhaps a lack of hunger or complacency as well.
Green can hopefully bolster the batting for the next game in Tasmania because scores of 250 and 170 won't win too many shield games

Strange game. Cruising at one point after getting sent in then folded through the middle and lower order twice. I went every day except day one. WTF was going on with that wicket? One end spun like a top, the other not. Fkn sprinklers come on as Jackson Bird comes in to bowl day 3, what a joke. Chris Green was allowed to dictate terms bowling rapid fire overs. I’m sure Wyllie wasn’t even looking up in that second innings by the time Green was at the crease delivering the ball. Lack of experience, composure, whatever NSW outplayed us (again). I don’t think there’s too many excuses. We play more cricket here, and earlier than any other state. Maybe if the squad could be picked from outside of just a couple of premier clubs we might be a chance.
