Well aware that I am in the minority in this, but I think East Fremantle have two very good candidates in Dwyer and McMahon.

Dwyer a very good players coach with strong discipline and probably what East Fremantle need after the joint Dodd-Malaxos experience. Would have concerns about his ability at the next level and would need some good support around him, but a strong candidate none the less. Passionate and positive.

As for McMahon, I think was case of bad circumstances in his first stint at Perth. Actually showed a real ability to manage people, coach players, had a strong leadership message and proved to recruit well in his three full seasons at Perth. Consider that he had gone 9-11, 6-14, 10-10 in three full seasons and had mixed development of youth with well reasoned recruiting. Change of direction at the club halfway through his tenure ruined a lot of the momentum that had been gathered and I think it has been very easy to blame McMahon for some goings on at Perth. My belief is that there is a well orchestrated reason behind that public perception.

East Fremantle have two very good candidates. I personally think McMahon is the best candidate and would deliver East Fremantle back to finals footy within a year or two, but think that it will end up being Dwyer that gets the nod.

I spoke to 2 trainers after the last game against Perth & they were adamant that only the directors of the club were involved in the selection process for the new coach. They said that the process was to remain confidential, including the names of all the candidates, as some of these people may already have jobs. They also were adamant that what was being reported in the media was complete bullshit. They went on to say that if any of the directors of the club were caught divulging information, they would be sacked.

I cannot verify from other sources if this is true, but they were both serious when discussing this with me.

Hopefully a lot of this speculation is just bullshit & that there is actually a healthy list of high calibre candidates to select from.

The club has not done itself any favours considering the messy way Malaxos' tenure as coach ended & our recent long period without winning a premiership. There was also speculation raised that there were issues with the senior playing group & Malaxos that led to Malaxos resigning. Any prospective coach would most likely see an appointment with our club as high risk & possibly damaging to their future prospects.

If the club had managed to win a premiership in 2012 or 2014 that may have helped a little, but after the last 13 weeks of this season, I am not confident of a return to success any time soon.

If it comes down to these to applicants then I would agree that on experience McMahon should get the position. As you say McMahon has had 3 yrs at the helm of a senior WAFL side. Appointing someone without that experience is no doubt a risk as we have seen with Brad Dodd. Just not convinced with either to be honest.

Freezin wrote: can't see how McMahon would get a look in, he struggled at Perth with a few big name players in his side such as Davis, Young, Bevan etc....similar to what EF has now with anthony, ROB etc so can't see how he is gonna be successful....and Dodd well he is apparently well liked with in the club....though that win loss ratio is a concern.....

I'll expand on that list of ex AFL players and experienced league players from other WAFL clubs for you Freezin.

As you mentioned already...Young, Davis, Bevan..... add to that Kyle Reimers, Bateman, Stack, Alistair Smith, Ugle (8 quality mids/forwards), Daniel Murray, Llane Spaanderman, Lleyendekkers (3 ruckmen), Tedesco, Jacobs, Noakes x 2 (other WAFL clubs), Risol, Sketcher (Vic), Moody ex AFL/SF. Then add the use of AFL listed players available up until end of 2012 McInness, Tunbridge, Butler, Ash Smith, Colledge.

Then Add McDougall, Kayler-Thompson (Subiaco) and Elari and Rogers) all left under his tenure, McDougall now retired premeirship player and 2 of them now established stars at SD. Say no more!!
Get on your bike.

Lets hope someone from the EF board reads this thread. There is nothing wrong with re-advertising the job, as some people have mentioned above.

I told you boys originally Dwyer was a candidate and nobody believed me. If his only opposition is McMahon then he will definitely get the job. A quality candidate articulate disciplined and a fitness "freak". Sharks will make the finals next year if he is at the helm.

being a part time role, I guess there is little chance EF are gonna attract a high profile coach.....interesting to read your post puppy about everything being hush hush in terms of candidates.....reckon all the grades could have new coaches in 2016......

I am warming to your logic Dempsey about Dwyer....3 flags in 4 years is pretty good going....and 5 GF on the trot...whilst might be a level down from the WAFL his success rate can't be knocked and he has played 150 games of WAFL, so the insight is there for what is needed at least from a playing perspective......
