Jeremy Barnard in 2019, took on a club playing list that had a weekly 14 to 15 player exodus from the previous season, yet today with virtually no recruiting in 2021,has managed to complete a clean sweep of defeating all nine WAFL teams in a very short space of time, and the East Perth board [if they have half a brain]need to confirm a contract extension as soon as possible.

Not sure of others, I am becoming angry about all this talk. The story doesn't seem to go away!
Giving the coach his notice won't solve anything. I think the board and the Prez need to be taking a look at                            themselves in the damn mirror. The club is below average this season, and not performed as expected. So what!
Is it the coaches fault the club had been taken over. Can't expect miracles to happen in such a short space of
time since 2019. Having the guts ripped out of the club, will take time to rebuild. Everyone one should be
supportive of the coach after what's happened.

Exactly, after all the upheaval the coach was forced to inherit, defeating last years grand finalists in recent weeks proves we are heading in the right direction, particularly after Barney was given next to no help from our recruiting department in the off season, where blind freddy can see we lack key position players.

I must be one the folk with a low football IQ.

When you play a team sport you have a game plan with variations that enable the TEAM to perform at a consistent level with the player you have. If it is the squad then you do something abt recruiting and yes we have not done well in that regard. Robertson is not what I would have expected other then his ability to get reported, Lynch and Kerr are good serviceable players and whilst Scott gathers possessions you can hardly say he has a high rate of effectiveness. Merritt is a good forward who will be better for his run this season. Cooley is a good pick up and Schumaker now he is fit looks the goods, Watts is young and like Merritt will be better from a injury free run.

Jeremy Barnard is a club legend and a really nice fella, no one can deny that! The fact remains that yes he inherited a disjointed squad but the task that was set was that within three years we would be playing finals and challenging teams on a CONSISTENT basis and from where I sit we are not doing that! Our game plan is a hit and miss affair, players coming in seem to unsure of the role they have in their assigned position and we seem to be relying on the Ramsays and our somewhat maligned short backline to solve the the issues.

The scuttlebutt is that there is a review of where we are and where we are heading with the current set up and what needs to change within the current constraints of money, the WAFC and other factors that are effecting all clubs.Where that leads is anyone's guess and that includes sticking with Barnard or looking elsewhere.

Extending his contract is an obvious option but it has to be for the right reasons and not emotive ones.

All well and good to set these grandiose 3 year plans, but unfortunately the football department clearly failed to come to the party this year as far as recruiting was concerned, and it was reported in our previous Tigers clash how a disgruntled Royals supporter was bemoaning the clubs injuries and lack of recruiting, and he has proven to be a very astute and very knowledgeable observer as the addition of Robertson who curbed the influence of Rogers, and elite midfielder Ramsay made all the difference yesterday, combined with an  overall elevated team skill execution level.

Cut to the chase if Barney is retained Turner and co must open the purse strings to some extent. The policy this year was protect the bank balance but a happy medium is required going forward.

Definitely our best performance this season. Special mention to Eaton, North and the backline. Buller into defence helped us with Max Merritt giving him the run around.

I wonder if one issue for us is that players have to want to come and play for us, it was an issue for PFC for a while where players just did not want to go there even when the payments were the same. Remembering they did try to get a few but failed and the reason for the lack of success was never known.

Definitely an issue Grump from what I  believe.  But money talks all languages.  I think some of the problems at the club may have been addressed.

The contract extensions of Pickering and Monaghan are very good measuring sticks when your assessing Barney's future. They both started their tenures the same time as Barney, and between them only Pickering has recorded a win against a top 4 opponent, when Swans downed Subi a few weeks ago, while Barney has claimed the scalps of 2 premiership fancies in recent weeks,to complete a clean sweep against our 9 WAFL opponents, which is no mean feat when you consider the decimated list he had inherited and many scribes predicted we would be competition easybeats for many years, but i'm sure Prescott and Curley would beg to differ. Barney's colleagues were rewarded with 2 year extensions on their contracts and i see no reason why he should not be afforded the same courtesy.

Just noticed only South, subiaco,Claremont and East Perth are the only clubs to defeat their 9 other WAFL adversaries since 2019,which puts into perspective what the current Royals coach has achieved with a decimated football squad,so lets hope common sense prevails.

Excellent article by John Townsend today, which was a ringing endorsement for our current coach.
