swan42 wrote: Well well well, Apparently Tony Abbott has brought forward the spill motion decision to Monday. Further he said he made the decision after consulting with his deputy and senior ministers, It would appear that they didn't include Turnbull.

Before I make my prediction of what will happen, let me emphasise that the potential sacking of Tony Abbott has nothing whatsoever to do with the media or the ALP. It had its genesis in the Liberal Party and in particular its backbenchers. That it could get to that stage after 16 months demonstrates just how toxic Tony Abbott is with his backbenchers and the people of Australia. Again those who most virtiolic in their comments about the supposed lies by Julia Gillard on this forum have been singularly quiet about the broken promises of Tony Abbott's Government. His latest broken promise is the paid parental leave axing.

Now for my predictions:

(i) Tony Abbott has been mortally wounded. He has thrown the likes of Julie Bishop and Malcolm Turnbull under the bus in the hope of saving his own skin. This will backfire on him badly.

(ii) Prior to the meeting tomorrow I expect Malcolm Turnbull to announce that he is reluctantly forced to support the spill motion and hence will tender his resignation from the front bench.

(iii) I expect the spill motion to be supported by the majority of the Liberals because they realise that Abbott has cooked his goose and if not tomorrow sometime in the next three months to go.

(iv) On the basis that spill motion is successful, I expect that Tony Abbott will announce that he won't contest the leadership and there will be at least two candidates to put forward their names: Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison. I would expect that if Turnbull wins then Bishop (of the Julie variety) will put her name forward and if Morrison wins Christopher (Pompous) Pyne will nominate to be his deputy.

(v) If Abbott goes, he will be followed very quickly by Joe Hockey.

Finally, what would be best for the ALP would be for Tony Abbott ot get up in a close decision and we see another budget which shows just how out of touch the current government is and we see a one term Federal Government for the first time since the second world war.

PS Baird and the NSW Government to be narrowly returned in the upcoming NSW state election.

Time to get a refund on that Crystal Ball Swan..lol

Read the Sydney Telegraph today as over here and I was most surprised to read a majority of Liberal politicians were getting a lot of emails from their constituents saying they would tear up their membership and not vote liberal is Abbott was kicked out.
One pollie said he was getting up to 300 emails a day with the huge majority telling him this.
Another said he received hundreds of emails with only 1 out of 20 supporting the spill.

Nice to see another point of view condsidering the ABC only spoke to the ones open about wanting a change and them saying all their electorate was saying Abbott had to go.

who do you believe certainly not the ABC who have proven they are not reporting the facts and are obviously extreme left when they are supposed to be unbiased.

A media circus at worst.
I loved the labor guy who said Short for brains shorton would have to go after being heavily involved in getting rid of Rudd.. etc etc.
Farking short memories some of these Labor voters but they are so brainwashed and have tunnel vision so you couldnt expect anything more.

Me I am a swinging voter... Voted Labor in last WA election and will do the same this time as Barnett is a liar and unable to govern this state..

Gee that might confuse some.... a person who votes for the party with the best policies..

Dont worry the silent majority is out there and the Libs and Abbott have plenty of support. Trust me
This message represents the official view of the voices in my head

cardy...i was a bit concerned over Abbott's comment that after the result of the spill motion, good government starts today...why the hell didn't it start 16 months ago when they came into power? i'm somewhat relieved Abbott survived because I hate the thought of changing leaders just because the polls are bad but I think it'll probably become inevitable at some point as there will be a lot of backbenchers nervous about their jobs if things keep going like they are. plus the fact i can't imagine that Labor rabble getting back in after just 1 term...so at days end if it means Malcolm will get the Libs over the line at the next election then so be it.

Can Malcolm and Tony work together after todays events or will there be something in the background that will cause these two to go at it again in the future?

i guess they'll have to ph...although Turnbull never actually challenged Abbott in any way shape or form but didn't come out in support either. if they can get along after Abbott beat Turnbull by 1 vote last time around they can do so again..or you'd hope so anyway.

So the Liberal party has given Tony 6 months to improve the polls? Great decision, another example to the Drunken Sailor Party (aka Labour)of how to govern without constant chaos.

Apparently Abbott won the spill by only 12 or 13 votes? Hardly a consolidating statement. With many back-benchers voting against the captain. If good governance starts from today as the pm suggests, what's he been previously doing? Why are our taxes being used to pay politicians very high salaries? Obviously not receiving good value for money there! Should be good governance all the bloody time! Although surviving the spill, it appears old tony does not have as much support as he thought. All of which puts Malcolm in the box seat, maybe? Todays vote not being a strong endorsement. Begs the question will another leadership challenge happen in the coming weeks/ months?
