As for the economy I agree with much of the sentiment discussed as to our misguided sense of self-entitlement.
It is far easier for Politicians to step away from the hard economic decisions and always pander to political sentiment. If that is what we all want then move over Greece because it appears the Australian voting public couldn't care less about enduring a little pain and leaving a strong and robust economy for its future generations.
When Australia suffers its next serious extremist attack, which God help us, now seems inevitable, people won't give two stuffs about whether Prince Philip got a Knighthood. We will want strong leadership.
God help us if Shorten & Co are at the helm if that happens.

Well said Preacher.

I was just thinking, we currently have the lowest Homeloand rates since 1968, Lowest Petrol prices in 6 years, a strong stock market with solid super gains, the boat arrivals issue was solved long ago, a lowering dollar giving a boast to Exporters and local Tourism and our Foreign students education sector, good trade deals with big nations, our unemployment rate although its risen is still very low by OECD standards, we have good international standing with the way we lead the Ukraine Jet disaster, Power bills are down with no carbon tax, mining which is under pressure at the moment has been releived of the mining tax, there has not been a Pink Batts shambles...

Yet the media a having a fit over this phillip knighthood rubbish which on the sale of things is a non issue.

Things are actually pretty good for most people with reducing costs of living and less day to day pressure as well decent gains in equities.

Spot on, we are better off. Pity Bob Hawke started the rot with OA to Phil the greek. Heard Shorten on c2 this morning & he said they should implement their promises, not break them. Thought the opposition caned a couple..

Yes indeed. Strong internal rumblings have led to a leadership challenge bought about by the WA rep for Cowan and Randall.

there has not been a Pink Batts shambles... (that has already been done) this government has given us plenty of other ammunition. it will be great to see abbott go but we will still be left with the same regime.

It appears Malcolm has been a busy boy. After publically ruling out a leadership challenge, now seems that is a porky pie lie. The leadership spill meeting planned for Tuesday has been brought forward to tomorrow morning. Obviously tony is uncomfortable with malcolms silence over the last several days, as turnball seeks the numbers behind the scenes. Tony is obviously losing ground and starting to panic. For the party to move on with confidence, the pm would need to win the spill convincingly.

Well well well, Apparently Tony Abbott has brought forward the spill motion decision to Monday. Further he said he made the decision after consulting with his deputy and senior ministers, It would appear that they didn't include Turnbull.

Before I make my prediction of what will happen, let me emphasise that the potential sacking of Tony Abbott has nothing whatsoever to do with the media or the ALP. It had its genesis in the Liberal Party and in particular its backbenchers. That it could get to that stage after 16 months demonstrates just how toxic Tony Abbott is with his backbenchers and the people of Australia. Again those who most virtiolic in their comments about the supposed lies by Julia Gillard on this forum have been singularly quiet about the broken promises of Tony Abbott's Government. His latest broken promise is the paid parental leave axing.

Now for my predictions:

(i) Tony Abbott has been mortally wounded. He has thrown the likes of Julie Bishop and Malcolm Turnbull under the bus in the hope of saving his own skin. This will backfire on him badly.

(ii) Prior to the meeting tomorrow I expect Malcolm Turnbull to announce that he is reluctantly forced to support the spill motion and hence will tender his resignation from the front bench.

(iii) I expect the spill motion to be supported by the majority of the Liberals because they realise that Abbott has cooked his goose and if not tomorrow sometime in the next three months to go.

(iv) On the basis that spill motion is successful, I expect that Tony Abbott will announce that he won't contest the leadership and there will be at least two candidates to put forward their names: Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison. I would expect that if Turnbull wins then Bishop (of the Julie variety) will put her name forward and if Morrison wins Christopher (Pompous) Pyne will nominate to be his deputy.

(v) If Abbott goes, he will be followed very quickly by Joe Hockey.

Finally, what would be best for the ALP would be for Tony Abbott ot get up in a close decision and we see another budget which shows just how out of touch the current government is and we see a one term Federal Government for the first time since the second world war.

PS Baird and the NSW Government to be narrowly returned in the upcoming NSW state election.

I'm gobsmacked swan. How you and others can point at this governments handling of the budget after the last bunch of drunken sailors almost bankrupted us is beyond belief. You seem as though you know which way is up, but have a think about it. You and I both know that Australia can not afford another 3 years of labour. If we do, we may well have the economy of Cuba!!! Very, very short sighted people some of you.

What makes me angry is all these politicians are all supposed to be wise and learned people. One of the questions being where is the wisdom? Why is the electorate constantly being dumbed down?
Being lawyers, bankers, economists etcetera, should allow for good governance. But as we've seen since the Howard era, that is simply not happened. There are many problems over there in blundersville which will filter through to the wider community. We are now on a downward spiral in this country. Politicians and parliament are supposed to be there to serve the people. Not to be self centred and the other way around.

Ah Politicians , just shows how far those bludgers have gone away from representing the very people who get them in there fat lounge chairs
Only time you see them in an electorate is during vote scavenging every 3 or 4 years and even then the useless pricks look like they don't want to be seen with the peasants
And then if you flick the telly over to parliament question well that's just C-grade entertainment value comedy
But I love how big a hypocrites the Liberal Party really are & funny how that fat over fed bludging porker Hockey is unusually quiet during this fiasco
Big ears is getting his just desserts for white anting Turnbull - how apt
