Goodo -- Albanese does have his moments at times and it was an accurate portrayal of the then Federal Opposition. I have no problem with the Senate blocking stuff which was not put before the electorate at the last election. We do, after all, have a way around the 'problem'; a double dissolution election.

And now we hear some of the nation's top business leaders now openly stating Abbotts leadership instability is harming business confidence. Apparently backbenchers are urging the cabinet to end the uncertainty. Usually big business gets what business wants.
In a development certain to add to the pressure on the PM, a well-known business leader is reported to have said Abbott's position now was unrecoverable. And the political uncertainty was hurting the economy. Another figure in the retail sector complained about the situation after disappointing half-yearly results, observing "stability is a really important thing" for consumer confidence.
Backbenchers have handed responsibility for resolving the leadership crisis afflicting the Abbott government to the cabinet.
Apparently two wo senior ministers have reminded Abbott that his tenure as Prime Minister remains the gift of the Liberal party room and not of voters.
Publicly, senior ministers from the Prime Minister down continue to deflect questions. But as we all know, what politicians say publically and what they say privately are two different things completely.
Looking likely the question remaining, is tony going quietly or going to be pushed. Then who becomes pm and do they have experience in said position?

Arkroyal did you happen to watch Paul Murray's programme on Sky News last night? One of his guests had the audacity to suggest that the ALP just oppose and say no to every thing Abbott has put forward. Ironic isn't it? Also, according to Paul Muuray it is left wing media in bed with Turnbull that the leadership crisis; absolutely nothing to do with the broken promises of Abbott.

Also, they seem to be pumping up Morrison. Personally, I think that Paul Murray has been watching the very worst of Fox News and has adopted their blatantly biased reporting.

As a matter of interest in Australian politics what is the most number of leaders the deputy leader has been deputy to?

Yes I know the guy whom you refer to in your post. I did not see his programme last night, but watch it on occasion. I have seen him make anti-Turnbull remarks in the past. His attitude is an example of what we discussed yesterday: the Liberal Party would be in danger of blowing up with Mr. Turnbull as leader. If the media is left-wing, as he claims, why would it back Turnbull? It would rather back Shorten over Turnbull. Andrew Robb made it clear, people are leaking with little encouragement from the press.

The stuff about letting the bills through is silly, and as you point out, not entirely consistent with their time in opposition. And, as for that stuff about Mr Howard's opposition bravely waving through Mr. Hawke and Mr.Keating's reforms, well that was Howard's decision back in the 1980s. Had I been in the Liberal party room at the time I would have spoken strongly against the move on constitutional and practical political grounds.

Fox News is definitely hard to watch, all those Republicans trying to abolish America and take it back to 1783. I watch it a little bit during their election years.

What is the answer to your question about the Deputy leader, Swan?

A/r I don't know the answer. I would think J Bishop would be close. Potentially, there is a possibility that she could get the gig to another leader, S Morrison.

As for Fox News I consider it to be the second comedy channel. There motto of fair and balanced is hilarious and when their comentators talk about President Obama as a lefty, communist and socialist it is high farce.

No LS I can remember back to 1974 when the Libs and the Country Party ignored any supposed mandate won by the ALP in the 1972 Federal election and defeated legislation which led directly to the 1974 double dissolution election. Then we have the disgraceful performance by the opposition in cahoots with the disreputable John Kerr in 1975.

Fast forward to 2007 when Howard fought an election which included an ETS as did the ALP's platform included an ETS. Why then did the Liberals and Nationals not adhere to the mandate philosophy, which they are continually espousing they have because they won the 2013 election, and support the ETS legislation after the 2007 election?

Now let me see if I can recall a precedent? Oh yes that's right the Liberals included an ETS in their 2007 election campaign and the ALP also had an ETS in their 2007 election campaign. Which party opposed the ETS after the 2007 election in opposition to their election promise and despite a MANDATE to the winning party of the 2007 election.

It is pure and base hypocrisy of the Liberals who protest about opposition to their legislation who have made an artform of it when in opposition. Any Liberal who plays this card have ABSOLUTELY NO CREDIBILITY.

Hang on, it was Rudd and Labor that walked away from the ETS, The Biggest Moral Challenge etc,,,and it cost Rudd his job for a while anyway.

Turnbull got the flick and so did the ETS from the Lib Platform.
