Baz, the West yesterday outlined what a clusterfuck Elbows has created with his totally incompetent handling of this issue. The more he's pushed the "Trust me" idea the more the average Australian Joe and Joanne have moved to the No side.

Not having 2 separate questions means it was destined to fail. The vast majority of Australians would have supported the simple idea of A & TSI inclusion in the Constitution, but the Voice was always destined to fail given the governments refusal to give sufficient details of how it works. If the Voice is going to be the panacea of all things indigenous, then why not legislate it in an orderly manner and see if it actually works over a reasonable timeframe. Then it might have a chance of being embedded in the constitution. That being said, if it works, then there's no need to do so and any Government that wanted to dismantle a programme that has finally found a proper workable efficient and fair solution to this issue would do so at it's own peril.

I've chatted to a quite a few No voters and the two big themes are:

1. creates a set of rights for one group and not everyone else.
2. putting it in the constitution makes it permanent so hard to change if it goes wrong
3. is a waste of money and time for the gov. in the current cost of living crisis.

Albo stuffed the whole thing up.

Spot on SS and exactly what I've been saying all along. Legislate it, tinker with it until it works. Interesting Albonesia has come out and said if it doesn't get up on Saturday, then he won't legislate it. Clearly that's because if it fails, then at least 50% of the voting population don't want it and it'll cost him votes at the next election. It just shows he's not "all in" after all.

BC - he has pretty much cooked the entire thing, if it was defeated, he would look undemocratic just pushing it through any way against the will f the people, that alone could cost him not just the PM job but probably the next election.

On the other hand just dropping the bat and ball entirely and saying I'm doing nothing - means it wasnt that important Afterall and was never going to be the panacea he promised.

Its a train wreck.,,,,

tbh I reckon this is the beginning of the end for Albo and probably the labor gov, you can literally feel WA and Qld turning as we speak,,,

the term wallyup is about 4 years old, given the blackfellas never had written language, alphabet or grammatical phonetics., its clearly a modern invented interpretation using culturally appropriated language ( English and Latin) and written in letters that never existed in 1000BC or so.
Baz you seem to be the expert on all things Aboriginal Culture.

I have been a Noongar all my 59 years and it always has been Walyalup. Pull your head in …

Come on Dwert - how about a bit of truth telling - how often did you say you were going down to Wallyup Oval in the 70s???

Agreed Baz.  Colin Barnett did a lot of good things for this state but one of his failures was not having a succession plan in place for when he either got voted out or pulled the pin.

If someone half way decent had taken over the Libs back then, I'm sure they would be in a position now to win the next state election so poor is the current rabble.

mate old Crusty Barnett did have a successor all appointed and anointed
except that creep wanted to sniff women's chairs and go on criminal benders
from then on all old Crusty wanted to do was bail out his thief son
and build ugly monuments

All these absurd ad keep saying is the life expectancy is lower for indigenous, as is the infant mortality rate.
Probably true, but what were those figures before white men showed up?  Considerably worse?
Hard to out grow 60,000 years of evolution in 250 years.  They blame racism, id blame genetics.

Infant mortality was very high prior to European arrival, infact Infanticide was regularly practiced, second born twins were killed as they were too difficult to carry in a hunter gatherer lifestyle, those that could not walk to the next seasonal hunting ground - elderly or disabled were left behind to die. Inter tribal warfare was common as was brutal tribal punishment spearing that would result in death. Life expectancy was low.

Dwert, can you please explain what the Voice can recommend to parliament about this and other issues that's not being done already and if they have solutions to indigenous problems, why hasn't the government acted on it before? To me, the Voice is just wishful thinking without a lot of substance and isn't any different to NIAA which already has 1,200 staff and a budget of over $4b.
