Swanky wrote: What about making an approach to Matthew Knights who is coach of VFL affiliate Geelong. Knights has had outstanding success with Geelong and is highly thought of by Geelong Coach Chis Scott. He has great success with development of younger players, has AFL coaching experience that was cut short by the self proclaimed God King in Hird. He was also recognised as an excellent skillful player who was a natural leader. Who can forget his Captain's game in 1995 to drag Richmond through to a preliminary final with hsi 3 O/S goals.

He may even be tempted to bring over one of the excess big men that are on Geelong's lists.

Yep worth a look. Hird spent a year white-anting him having secret-squirrel meetings with the players so he could weasel into his job so I don't reckon you can read too much into his failure at Essendon.

If the current applicant list turns out to be a pile of crap then I'm all for the club getting on the front foot and making direct approaches to blokes like this. You'd hope they've already done it in fact.

Knights is a better coach than he's been made out. Was white-anted at Port Magpies as well.

Finally some concrete news filtering through in The West. Looks like Scott Watters is the front runner for the SF gig with John Worsfold heading the selection panel. But like what I hear about our selection panel. John Dimmer, former premiership defender Brian Cook and some bloke named John Haines who is apparently a former North Melbourne football manager. Those mentioned as candidates for the coaching gig are Brent Guerra, Aussie Jones and Earl Spalding who apparently coached Wesley Curtin to the flag last year. Hopefully there are a few more "A" graders applying and the field is strong.

I think the good news for us is if Watters is an applicant for the South job he would be odds on to get it. That leaves the rest of the available to pick from. I've got full faith in John Dimmer and Brian Cook. Hopefully these blokes are interested in staying involved in some form of off field capacity.

Subiaco ressies would go close to knocking off your league side now the way they are travelling at the moment. Have a look through that list for next year.

Thought I'd put this here Plus1 as it's probably better suited to this topic.

We have been burnt by going for other players at other WAFL clubs in the past but in saying that you do have your wins i.e Matthew Tedesco and Julian Jacobs who came from West Perth and Subiaco respectfully.

Not saying that these are the players that need to be recruited but they are having good years in the reserves and league teams and should at least come up in discussion.

Subiaco

Matthew Bogensperger, William Getherstonhaugh, Darcy Boyle, Dylan Clarke

East Perth

Kyle Anderson, Mitch Howlett, Matt Gordon, Jacob Payne, Scott Jones, Julian Locantro, Thomas Shanahan

East Fremantle

Jake Schleicher

West Perth

Aiden Field, Aidan Lynch, Tim Sutherland

Claremont

Henry Roberts

By my calculations and I may have missed a couple but we have 55 players on our list at a total of 122 points. You’re only allowed 120 so not sure what’s happening with players playing and not playing each weekend.

What could happen to the 2014 squad, i.e list changes

• If Paul Bevan goes on his points get halved from 12 to 6.
• Jared Risol is rumoured to be heading home next year. Only murmers at this stage and I would hope that he stays as he has been a very good recruit. If he goes that frees up 10 points.
• If Nick Kane decides not to go on that frees up 5 points.
• If Mark Deaves decides not to go on that frees up 2 points.

• In total we free up 23 points, leaving us on 99 points and 21 free points to spend on recruits for 2015.

What we need for 2015

Where do you start, there’s a lot that needs to be changed on this list, whether it is a change in game plan, better fitness regime or getting new players onto the list, a lot needs to happen. Roughly this is what I think is the most important positions that we need to address.

1. Key Midfielder
2. Key Defender
3. Key Forward
4. Key Ruckman
5. Players that can play through the middle as well as either forward or back (VERSATILITY)

Potential Recruits for 2015
If we are having a look at other clubs such as players that might not be getting a game because of the alignment or at teams at the top like Subiaco and Swan Districts etc...
1. Sam Butler – Key Midfielder who I think is valued at 5 points
2. Kyle Anderson – Key Defender who is 7 points.

If you get those two that would leave 9 points left, not a lot.
• If we can get Matt Tedesco (3 points) Julian Jacobs (2 points) and Ali Smith (1 point) then this would also help as they can play various positions.
• In my opinion one of Fraser McInnes, Simon Tunbridge or perhaps both could be delisted by the Eagles at the end of the year and they are both 1 point players so it would be a priority to get them back at the club.
• Cruize Garlett is also a 1 point player and has very good foot skills whuch is something we have lacked for years
Problems
• We still don’t have room to recruit a key forward or a key ruckman which is disappointing but if one of the other high point players on the list decides to leave the club then this all of a sudden becomes a priority.

The Future
• Brent Edmonds
• Matthew Hunt
• Kieran Hug
• Gerald Ugle
• Mitch Leyendekkers
• Michael Sinclair
• Cameron Manuel
• Joel Kalajzic
• Aiden Tropiano
• Callum Collard
• Mitch Browne
• Sam Garstone
• Hayden Tanner
• Scott Doncon
• Kayle Phillips
• Damian Wright
• Mitchell Henderson
• Thomas Glasfurd
• Brayden Manuel
• Cody Leggett
• Jesse Rose
• Trae Phillips

All these players have shown promise at this stage of their careers and hopefully if developed properly, 5-6 or maybe more could go on and play 100 games for the club.

What the 2015 line-up could look like going off the above
B: Irons Anderson Jacobs
HB: Sinclair J.Morton C.Morton
C: Tedesco Butler A.Smith
HF: Stack Bevan M.Morton
F: Busher Tunbridge Collard
R: Leyendekkers Ugle Hodge
INT: Garlett, Eyres, McInnes, Moody, Bateman, White, Florio, Boyle, Manuel, Leeson, Houghton, Keast, Kalajzic, Power, Billings, O’Sullivan

Liam McKenna is another one who is from Peel that has had limited chances at Peel because of the full alignment this year.

Very informative review of the list mr afl
Of those players mentioned all have played some league games.
Some havn,t such as Boyle , Jones, Schleicher, Shannahan, Lynch and Sutherland.
Those guys must be very hungry by now some are in outstanding form.
The next big thing might be in there.

A lot of those Subiaco and East Perth guys also are getting very limited opportunities because of the depth at the clubs and have some league experience .
A couple of those would play regular league footy at most other clubs.
As I said the comp is full of Troppianos just have to try and find them

Geezus no offence Mr Afl but you are dreaming aren't you? No way will Tunbridge be delisted. Didn't you hear Adam Simpson's comment on Tunners recently? Butler I would saywill nbe delisted, McInness maybe but I doubt it. They will be prepared to give him a couple more years. Would be nicenot to lose Bevan and Risol and get a few players back.
