According to supporters on your site Maskos and Turley are the 2 favourites for the South job.
He would be mates with Bateman so i reckon he would lean towards ours.

You mean Todd Curley. Hopefully he's an applicationffor our job also. The good thing about getting rid of McDud and handing over to Williams is he will be able to sit down with the new coach and go over the list. It wouldn't have been appropriate if McDud was allowed to see out the season.

Not Guerra -- he has not coached anybody; he should be the assistant to Williams; I would support Curley.

So if Waterman was a candidate and has now pulled out is that because he may have heard someone else is a monty for the job?
Personally i wasnt interested in Waterman but im curious as to why he would have withdrawn his application...if in fact this is what has happened.

The more i hear who has applied the more im warming to the idea of Guerra as coach.
The only drwaback with Guerra would be if he is mates with Adam Simpson is there a chance after a year or 2 he would be an assistant at the Eagles?

The word is Waterman pulled out because there was too bigger clash with his sons football. He's a potential father son at west coast and wanted to put time into him.

Someone must have told him how much the position is paying.
I think that will scare off a lot of these so called high profile possibles like Harvey, Watters and Waterman.
Plus it's only part time, is that right.

I would like to make a few more points, if I may:

1 as I have said -- being a good footballer at 16 does not mean you will be a good footballer at 26 years. This is another con trick of the AFL

Agree with that, however we have had our fair share of good kids come through over the last 10-12 years. I would of expected in that time at least five more players to have gone on and played 100 games than what we currently have.

ArkRoyal wrote: 2 many young men drop the game because being a league footballer is hard work

That combined with work and moving forward in life also comes under consideration. Often find that kids that turn 18 will stick it out for three to five years and then depending on how many games they've played and also the prospects of their team they may or may not decide to move on with the next phase of their lives.

ArkRoyal wrote: 3 you provide an interesting list of players, but of the chaps whom have played regularly for Perth, none have dominated the WAFL

Bevan and Stack dominated last year. Bevan has struggled this year IMO because he is having to be 'everywhere'. Stack just looks completely off atm but on his day is a definite match winner.

ArkRoyal wrote: 4 this, in fact, would suggest a lack of talent at the club

There are some players here who show glimpses of potential and occasionally have a really good game but aren't able at the moment to string games together or take the next step.

ArkRoyal wrote: 5 the club has not had a key forward for decades

A long, long, long time ago

ArkRoyal wrote: 6 this is because key forwards and defenders of skill are quite rare

That they are. It says a lot when the best key defenders you have had over the past 20 years are Aaron Zucconi, Robert Haddrill and Jared Risol. Key forwards well if Hayden Busher was injury free then he would be up there. His last three games before he did his hamstring were very good. Other than that it was Brett Spinks back in 97 and well this is stretching it a bit in terms of a key forward, Chris Maguire.

ArkRoyal wrote: 7 the club needs to concentrate on young men whom are 6 feet four and can run

The club needs to concentrate on youth permanently and getting as many one point players into the team as possible. Players should be given every opportunity to get the most out of themselves and become league footballers. Everyone develops at different rates. I wouldn't limit it to a specific size though.

One thing I will add is that you look at our midfield and where is the point of difference? Everyone is similar height, speed and skill level. There's no one in there that's 191 cm and big bodied or got lightning quick speed or superior vision. Main point here is there's no diversity.

ArkRoyal wrote: 8 In the long-run, hopefully some of the players whom play in Victoria, will return to the club to try and win the premiership

I can't see anyone returning soon.

ArkRoyal wrote: 9 this it what usually happens at Subiaco and Claremont.

Yes players return to these clubs but these clubs are also very good at bringing the best out of their younger players and developing them to becoming good solid league players.

Mr AFL-- thanks for some interesting points

just a couple of remarks:

1 if players play the odd good game and then more or less struggle, it suggests they are not good enough
2 I think all clubs would have such players, few of them would play 100 games at any club
3 we agree that good solid footballers are scarce -- you did a good analysis of Perth's forward line; Let us compare it to Subiaco's, if I may.
4 since 1980, we have had two (2) full forwards -- Breman and Smith
5 two -- not many, but it is two more than Perth have had and explains the difference between the clubs; both had natural ability it was not taught by Subi
6 Subi were also lucky because Smith got injured and could play for us and not in the AFL.
7 As you pointed out, when Perth has had more ability, as under Blackwell, it made the finals
8 I think a new coach can make a difference at Perth, but in the end, he is a victim of whether his players can kick, mark, hand ball and so on, better than the opposition
9 I think back to John Todd, whom in his final stint at SD, won one game for the season. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.
10 Hopefully, the wheel will turn for the PFC soon

Pretty sure Mick Rea was a more than decent FF in his day at Perth Ark Royal.....so that's one more FF Subi have had since 1980......pretty sure Subis abilty to turn themselves around financially, attract and retain decent recruits, plus lose very few to the draft has played a big part in their recent success especially, especially since the beginning of the millennium mate....good luck to them, whilst hopefully PFC can really turn their fortunes around.....after nearly 4 decades of despair surely there will be some light at the end of the tunnel soon....surely?

Hi Freezin:

1 This is the point I am making: Subiaco have been lucky with their zone and the draft since 1987
2 The money is there entitlement because they were booted out of their ground
3 I am not counting Mick Rea -- he was a Victorian recruited from WP
4 This is why I have not mentioned the forwards Subi has imported by the truck loads to cover for not having Smith or Breman
5 Subi has been well -run, had a pretty good zone and some cash -- from Buckenera and Western Underwriters
6 we all know that EF have lost many to the draft, which we has led to your premiership drought
7 but EF should not have voted for the Eagles to come into existence, should they?
