Astro, even Blind Freddy would be an improvement. Whoever gets the gig will have a huge challenge so we need to have the very best that is available. Some say there are 11 applicants and who knows who they are. Perhaps there are one or two have been on the radar and are interested but we have to wait and see.

But we need more than a new coach. The club has to go back to the drawing board and start again at junior and country zones and re-think the development structures and clear out the transition paths so that we can get the kids through to the club and eventually into league ranks in numbers as well as talent. The talent is there. We just seem to waste it.

This has continually been alluded to by others over a period of time and the time is now to do something about it.

If you believe the talent is there then why do Perth need to re think metro and country zones.

Yes, there is talent there and has been for quite a while. If the development and transition paths are clogged and the talent is not getting through to senior ranks then you have a problem and something has to be done about it.
Other clubs do it... Swans, Souths, Sharks always seem to have players coming through in numbers each year and graduating into league players and being drafted to AFL.
This year we had one.. Clem Smith, who will be drafted. There should be at least 5 or 6 come up from the Colts and into senior ranks each year. They may not all make it into league ranks nor to AFL but a regular stream of players will ensure a strong and vitalised squad at league level each year.

Where did Trevor Williams come from, and if the rumour is true Waterman was coach under Atkins at Peel so there is a fair connection there.

I said ex-players. Williams was at Peel Thunder as league coach for the 2010, 2011 and half of the 2012 season. Marty Atkins took over as Peel Football Manager in November 2009. Chris Waterman's last year was in 2009 so wouldn't really call him and Marty Peel connections.

yep Murray,Leyendeckers,Johnson(full back came with Leyendeckers),Reimers.
There may be 1 or 2 other players i cant think of right now.

Theres 4 players from the wooden spoon club plus Trevor Williams.
Thats close to a love affair with his former club that he was FM at imo!

Marty was FM between for the 2010, 2011 and the start of the 2012 season.

Mitch Leyendekkers was there when Marty was FM. Daniel Murray was there. David Johnston came to Peel from Swan Districts only for the 2012 season. Kyle Reimers whilst being from Peel originally wasn't a Peel player while Marty was there.

So yes there is a bit more of a connection than what I thought but still not that great. I think Trevor Williams also may have coached David Johnston in the state 16's or 18's and wasn't he coach at Peel colts when Reimers was there. If anything Williams is the one with the stronger connection.

Didn't have the cattle at Peel.

Would be nice not to lose anymore supporters over the appointment though.

Doesn't really have the cattle here at Perth either TBH. Too many players here that on paper look good but have not lived up to expectations.

Mr AFL,Im talking about Marty's connection with the Peel football club and not whether he was there or not when those players/coaches were although in saying that 95% of the names i listed and including Waterman were there when Marty was.
Anyaway just my take on it!

Hey Smokey i'll tell you the other thing they have to look at and thats our rehab program for injured players.

We seem to have a lot of players who's injuries seem to take a long time to get over and in a few instances season ending when on face value the injuries look to be just weeks out type injuries.

Our rotations are bullshit.
