Hi All -- just a few observations

1 someone has to come last -- Subi has the most wooden spoons in the league
2 long standing premiership droughts are common; Subi 49 years; Perth 47 years; and currently, both EP and Perth close to 35 years each
3 these sequences are to do with a lack of talent coming through each of those clubs in each of those eras.
4 I have said before on here -- from the 1976 colts squad Subi had one player play league football; hence the results of the late 70s and early 80s
5 from 1975-1980 only three players played 100 games for the Lions
6 in the 49 years without a premiership, premierships at colts and reserves were dotted throughout the club's history, but it mattered nowt in league ranks
7 the so-called 'Perth problem' which some refer to on here does not exist: the club has suffered from a lack of talent, in common with other clubs in the present and past.
8 it has recruitted well at times -- Pang, and Young -- less well at other times, but, taken together, all the recruitment has been aimed at covering for the lack of talent at home.
9 one remark on the recent past: to win football matches -- I am ignoring Roosball which they play in the AFL -- you have to have the following: key position players and players of skill in the centre, or forward of the centre.
10 Perth, unfortunately, has moved away from the above; other strategies have been used -- including Roosball -- to try and make up for the club's lack of talent
11 The next coach must at least address this problem.

Good, last thing we need is someone who only wants a plumb job that is not prepared to do the work required to build the club so it can be strong onfield.

IMHO Waterman was a dud at Subi, our fitness levels dropped away very quickly from the peak times under German & Watters during Muddy's reign. Yes Subi did pop up in the 2011 GF but that was on the back of a sensational 2nd half of the season by Horesly and the outstanding leadership of Parker who for all intents and purposes was coaching the team.

I also heard today Waterman has pulled out. One of the leading candidates is Brent Guerra. Apparently been very impressive to date. And also Mark Harvey not officially pulled out but unlikely

Thanks Ark Royal. Good post
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

After reading your points number 7 is an interesting one. Looking back to recent seasons I think Perth may have well had the talent at Development level throughout their zones but it has not transpired to the success that may well be expected. From memory Perth had a large number of State 16s representatives for a few years some of those being Conca, Duffy, Ugle, McInnes,Tunbridge, O Meara, Kent and Colledge as the names that are most recognised by most football followers. The information I was told was that Perth had some 15 plus young players who represented WA at 16s level and obviously some of them progressed to 18s level. Are all these players still with Perth? And if not what has become of them. Clubs will always have a need to recruit to fill their on field requirements but without developing young players from their zones it will be extremely difficult to have on field success even more so with the alignment clubs. The question could be whether clubs are putting enough resources into bringing on these young players and producing 100game WAFL players.

Thanks to those whom wrote back to my recent post.

I would like to make a few more points, if I may:

1 as I have said -- being a good footballer at 16 does not mean you will be a good footballer at 26 years. This is another con trick of the AFL
2 many young men drop the game because being a league footballer is hard work
3 you provide an interesting list of players, but of the chaps whom have played regularly for Perth, none have dominated the WAFL
4 this, in fact, would suggest a lack of talent at the club
5 the club has not had a key forward for decades
6 this is because key forwards and defenders of skill are quite rare
7 the club needs to concentrate on young men whom are 6 feet four and can run
8 In the long-run, hopefully some of the players whom play in Victoria, will return to the club to try and win the premiership
9 this it what usually happens at Subiaco and Claremont.

So if Waterman was a candidate and has now pulled out is that because he may have heard someone else is a monty for the job?
Personally i wasnt interested in Waterman but im curious as to why he would have withdrawn his application...if in fact this is what has happened.

The more i hear who has applied the more im warming to the idea of Guerra as coach.
The only drwaback with Guerra would be if he is mates with Adam Simpson is there a chance after a year or 2 he would be an assistant at the Eagles?
