Mate...I think you'll find everyone on here appreciates the work you and your colleagues do on a daily basis. I guess that is my point in being critical of this government in particular that we have so many advantages in terms of geographical isolation and material wealth as a state, that more could have been done during 2 years of virtually no Covid to make the life of our health workers easier. Whether that's building dedicated Covid hospitals or repurposing existing assets like Freo Hospital with state of the art equipment, offering big bucks and other enticements to poach medical staff from elsewhere or getting them to come out of retirement and so on. I was reading some narrative by one of the 5,000+ medicos who has signed a Change.org petition to open the borders on 5 Feb and he was saying the private hospital he works in has had most elective surgeries cancelled based on the 5 Feb opening date and now there's a whole group of staff sitting around waiting to see what happens next. There's also a story from a Singaporean anaesthetist who has been through all the protocols, accepted a job, signed a lease on an apartment from 6 Feb who now has to change everything. I think most agree except your rusted on McCoward supporters that there's no valid reason to push opening up back other than political. But keep up the good work Freez and hopefully this will be a distant memory one day although I don't think it will be any time soon...maybe when the Sharks win their next flag. :-)
Dedicated purpose built Covid hospitals within a 2 year time frame , how long B.C, did it take to build the MATAGARUP BRIDGE in east perth?????3 years i believe, even after a well established timeline, the contractors still failed to have the project completed by the start of the 2018 AFL season. The prevailing view in the initial stages of the pandemic was the simple and only reasonable playbook of social distancing, closing the borders, while we waited for much needed vaccines to be developed where they would rescue us and the world from this insidious disease which has turned the worlds economy on its head, but even 12 months after they been developed, the world is still in the grip of this new variant, and how Magoo was supposed to have the foresight to anticipate and predict the staggering numbers coming from the East is anybodies guess, and his projected 5th of FEB opening was as he publicly stated based on the Delta variant and the OMicron has forced his hand again to shift the date, and no one on this forum has a better idea of the machinations of modern day hospitals than Mr FREEZE,and he has constantly told us, regardless of what new facilities are built, you still need the doctors and nurses to man them, and we are not unique here and abroad, with this perennial public hospital staff shortage problem, and i honestly feel the man has been unfairly vilified for doing what he thinks is in the best interests of WA public heath, and people conveniently forget he was given an overwhelming mandate at the polls to do so,and hopefully with the dwindling numbers over east we will get a definitive opening date, where our undoubted beleaguered front line medical professionals will stand more of a fighting chance to perform their service to the best of their abilities..

If the Chinese can build a 1000 bed hospital in a week I reckon we should be able to do it in 6 months....unless of course being Labor it was a union controlled site and then would take 10 years and be 3 times over budget as you say.

You don't get to decide what you can and can't do  in 1.4 billion communist china,no haggling over award rates or deciding whether you will or won't get vaccinated, you just do as your told.In fact Wuhan has already resumed normal activities, oblivious to the world Covid cluster Fck they created.

BC if I recall correctly the firm that put forward the proposal said he could build it in 6 months. The initial plan was for Perth airport but the federal government said it couldn’t be built there then I thought they were looking at Jandakot airport.

Build all the purpose built COVID hospital's you want or spruce up Freo, Shenton Park, & Osborne Park hospital's as much as you want.....pretty sure  many  a  Perth / Rural  hospital are already struggling to meet  safe staffing levels right now,  so who's going to actually work in these new facilities you folk  speak of,  that should of been built in the last 2 years by McGowan.....when world wide health staff toing and froing  has been  well n truly curtailed due to COVID.

You guys do realise, WA  has fark all staff to meet current Health Service demands right now don't you?.....Heres a laugh, perhaps we can close all the WA  Rest Homes temporarily, get families to step up and  look after their elderly loves ones at home, allowing the staff to be seconded elsewhere.....or even better close all the private hospital's temporarily,  cancel all non important  private elective  rotator cuff, ACL, knee/ hip replacement, tummy tucks, nose jobs, breast enhancement/ reduction surgeries etc etc....

I wonder if the likes of TFAF will be seconded from their RN/ Doctor admin roles onto the frontline when Code Brown hits WA?.....TBH this is only way I can see WA Health Service getting a quick boost in terms of  finding the staff  in this current COVID  climate, to combat Omnicrom when it inevitably rolls into town.....

Naagh.... let's build another health facility instead......looks better and makes Joe Public feel better in themselves,  when  they can visually see something in bricks and mortar in front them.....who gives a toss if there is no one available to work in it behind all that bricks and mortar.

I will be seconded and am quite happy to be.

My thoughts on getting enough staff is to put in place an immediate bonus of 10K for existing nurses/allied health as well as returning nurses/allied health this added to an immediate 5% pay rise will have numbers covered easily.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Given McGoo is sitting on a mountain of mineral royalties dollars and a massive budget surplus, I see no reason not to substantially increase hospital/health workers wages significantly and see if that is a way to attract more workers. I'm sure they appreciate all the warm fuzzy well dones that have come their way but it doesn't compensate for endless long/double shifts, cancelled holidays etc etc.

If thats what it takes lets do it TFA,especially after we learnt how jobkeeper was exploited by big and small business's where i know a bloke bought a 80,000 dollar Audi sports car, from the money he saved on wages, although that was federal not state funds.

Stop saying things that make sense TFAF, Marky Mark doesn't want to hear solutions to problems that would allow WA to safely open the border and leave it open for good. He just doesn't want to hear it.

I can imagine his colleagues trying to tell him, Mark we can do this, we can do that ....... And Mark covering his ears with this hands and saying not listening, not listening, I can't hear a word you are saying.......
