Sadly DD, the only bed wetters here mate are either the frontline Health Staff here in WA looking on what has happened in the UK, USA, Europe etc and thinking fark that, don't get paid enough to deal with this shite....or folk sitting in the  COVID nose bleeders like yourself, so far away from the COVID frontline, jumping up and down saying enough is enough, open the borders....if COVID is inevitable and to some folk just a mere variant of the yearly flu.....come on down, suit up and help the depleted frontline Health providers deal with the inevitable.

Freez I'm just echoing the messages coming from the hospitals when they say they're not ready so surely the question must be why not?  It could be something to do with a lazy former Health Minister not being proactive enough in supplying PPE, restructuring ED's to better cope with the inevitable influx, not ripping hundreds of millions of $ out of the health system then trying to put it back....WA hospitals have had the advantage of time over their eastern states counterparts so surely they should be better prepared.  One of the people trumpeting the loudest and is this government's biggest critic is Olsen from the nurses union and reckon he's pretty well placed to have an opinion....then there's the AMA both locally and nationally saying the same things...so there's a large body of evidence to support the fact McGowan hasn't gone hard or fast enough in getting the hospitals ready and not just the opinion of someone 10,000 kms away who's not living here and seeing it first hand in WA.   

Bc, both the nurses union flella who is abt as credible as the worst given his chop and change over the journey and the last AMA DR wanted the borders kept shut cos we were not ready, ready for what!

I trust your judgement and reckon you are quite considered but none of these people have held the same opinion for more than a week, you and freeze have but most of the so called experts are playing politics at our collective expense. 

No one in the wonderful wide world was ready for this and whilst I think we would never have been ready for the scale of what we are seeing there has been a distinct absence of disaster planning for quite sometime, yep they practice fire drills and plane fires but actually planning an simulating disasters on a scale larger than a cyclone has not been happening. No planning no understanding of what, how and when to do stuff!

Oh well virus's come and go we will be fine and live happily ever after...hopefully

BC...kinda think NZ and WA have adopted the same wait and see approach.....with both powers concerned about the apparent lack of capability both their respective health services could cope with an rapid influx of COVID.....and as I work in ED on the front line....unlike you....i see first hand on a daily basis...the minimum 6 + hour wait times......which I have no doubt Perth ED's would be longer servicing a greater population ...without rapid influx of COVID...

So tell me again what do you mean by restructuring ED's and getting hospital's ready?....what in fark do you mean by that?..bottom line it's lack of staff mate....lack of bodies on the floor to actually  cope safely  with the work and share the load.....reducing staff burn out, sickness etc etc.....this ain't a new thing, it's been an ongoing problem, which you Joe Public ain't got a farking clue about...and never had...for years and years.....

In my previous ED job, I got paid out 17K in owed annual leave, because as a senior member of the team staff......leave was consistently declined......due to unsafe staff skill levels.......

Do you know how to don/doff PPE BC?....do you think it's like taking off your jocks and socks mate.....it takes a minimum of 3-5 minutes, with a buddy watching,  ensuring proper protocols are followed for both processes..cutting corners is where mistakes happen and COVID  transmission occurs....especially when pressed for time or fatigued.....but hey what the fark do I know.....wearing PPE day in day out 10 000 miles away....

Nah...it's all good Freez. The CHO Andy Robertson has just sent out a 3 page directive to all WA hospital staff on what they should expect and how to deal with it when we finally come out of hiding. I feel much better now we have a whole 3 pages and some BCF tents as our preparation.

LOL.....yeah fair enough BC.....fingers crossed this fella Andy will come down and help when his  3 page directive turns to custard.....but he will no doubt be at his perspex  COVID nose bleeder desk  or on holiday, recovering from all that energy expended coming up with that 3 page COVID  directive......called fatigue I think.

Mate...I think you'll find everyone on here appreciates the work you and your colleagues do on a daily basis. I guess that is my point in being critical of this government in particular that we have so many advantages in terms of geographical isolation and material wealth as a state, that more could have been done during 2 years of virtually no Covid to make the life of our health workers easier. Whether that's building dedicated Covid hospitals or repurposing existing assets like Freo Hospital with state of the art equipment, offering big bucks and other enticements to poach medical staff from elsewhere or getting them to come out of retirement and so on. I was reading some narrative by one of the 5,000+ medicos who has signed a Change.org petition to open the borders on 5 Feb and he was saying the private hospital he works in has had most elective surgeries cancelled based on the 5 Feb opening date and now there's a whole group of staff sitting around waiting to see what happens next. There's also a story from a Singaporean anaesthetist who has been through all the protocols, accepted a job, signed a lease on an apartment from 6 Feb who now has to change everything. I think most agree except your rusted on McCoward supporters that there's no valid reason to push opening up back other than political. But keep up the good work Freez and hopefully this will be a distant memory one day although I don't think it will be any time soon...maybe when the Sharks win their next flag.

maybe Maybe Mark McGowan could have used some of the Billions of dollars the Federal libs GAVE AWAY to rich companies at the start of COVID and didnt get any of it back when said companies made huge profits,
to put into health care in WA.
