SF attracted 208,560 to its games Av 9931 - which was the second highest, for the league, not bad considering EF poor form that resulted in below average Derby attendances . that being the only thing preventing SF leading the attendance records that year.

The final round in keeping with the practice always had low attendances for games that had no bearing on the finals, the 6000 odd SF v WP was actually the second highest attendance for that round, others around 4 and 5k ,C v SD obviously had massive implications and attracted a equally massive crowd.

BH: that is true about the Krakouer boys, they had only played about three seasons from memory. In other words, the Victorians recruitted them early because of their skills.

As Bazza has suggestted the uniquity of those three teams was that they all could have broken the scorring record that year, as it was CL and South did it.

SD 38.21 249
CL 39.20 254
SF 40.18 258

Incredible scores those 3 AR.
From memory there were many other 20-25-30+ goal hauls that season.

BH: good memory: Cl kicked over 200 points twice; 199 points once, plus another three or four scores of between 180 and 198 points. SD also did it twice as well and had other scores of 180 points and above; SF in addition to breakining the record, had a game where they kicked 198 points.

Here is an interestting game from the era especially for the Perth boys:

Perth 18.13
SF 15.13

Think it was Alan Montgomery & Kim Fancote who hurt South that game

What a great year 1981 was, the game I remember vividly was the Claremont v Swans game in round 21. I was sitting on the fence with a great view of Phil Krakouer running carelessly into Darryl Sutton elbow - Sutton would've got 10 games nowadays for the hit - he got nothing, don't even think he got reported. I've watched the last qtr numerous times, even though we lost, it was a great game, full of great players of the era. 18106 crammed in, which was then a ground record passed only one in 1983.

1981 was the highest scoring year on record with teams averaging 123.11 points per game and no teams ever in have scored more points in a season (including finals) than Claremont (3571 avg 155.26), SF (3344 @ 139.33) and Swans (3221 @ 140.04) - Claremont averaged 159.62 points a game during the H&A season, Swans 144.52 and SF 140.10 which are the 1st, 2nd and 4th highest averages in WAFL history (3rd is Claremont in 1983 (142.14).

Also in 1981, Perth conceded the most points ever in a season 3311 points at an average of 157.67, 221 points and 10 points per game more than Subi 3090 @ 147.17 in 1979.
