1981--
Cl -- the best side I have seen in the WAFL
Sd -- strugelled in the finals with a few missing
Sf -- brilliant side which could have won the flag
Ep -- solid effort throughout the season

S -- much improved, but not really a serious finals contender
Wp -- did not turn up in the second part of the season
Ef -- disgraceful season -- Northsworthy did kick 33 goals
Pfc -- gainned their first wooden spoon in decades (1935)

Which former leadding goal sneak played for EF in 1981?

1981 my favourite year of WAFL and we didnt even win the flag that year.
The last season WA Champions Jim & Phil Krakouer, Maurice Rioli, Simon Beasley, Gary Buckenara, Brian Peake, Jim Sewell, Alan Johnson, Craig Holden, Bill Duckworth et al played here before lengthy and or permanent moves East.

Was the goalsneak Murray Couper AR?

Very well done you two, I had been unaware that he went to OLD Easts as well as EP. He kicked three of the nine goals in the game where the blue and whites were slaughtted by WP.

We saw one record score after another it seemed - some incredible quarters and from memory there were at least four occasions where teams scored 13 goals in them.
I witnessed 40 in the very last match of the season , still engraved in my memory
Then watched my side kick 4.12 and two out of bounds on the full in the second quarter of the grannie , and again witness Maurice Rioli dominate a game.

Southerner: I have always been grateful for South and possibly CL beatting SD's scorring record. After all, the SD boys can never have the fact that they were the first to do it taken away from them. 10.20 at three quarter time was unacceptable.

The highest scoring season by some distance when double figure goal tallies by Full Forwards, Half Forwards & Rovers were almost a weekly occurrence.
Would give anything for those unbelievable days to please come back!

BH: I think Perth kicked 25 gaols that year when they beat Subi in round 7, which goes to highlight the degree to which big scores were bootted. It is the Victorians whom have played defensive football whatever the era. Apparently, one of the first comments Ross Smith made about the WAFL on his arrival was to remark on the absence defensive football.

81 was an amazing season.Claremont where the standout side only losing 2 games.Did they also beat Melbourne on the MCG in the Fosters cup. Most wins where cricket scores.Probably good enough to beat all VFL sides in Perth.
East Perth v Essendon and Carlton v Claremont use to play pre season double header.Claremont fixed Carlton up by over 10 goals.
Bad kicking is bad football and that's what south did in the GF.they where the better side on the day.Footbll journalists said it was a higher standard game than the VFL GrandFinal.
Swans where 3rd and probably a 5 to 7 goal better side than 4th placed EP.After 81 the Wafl went down with at last 3 teams struggling each year.Remember the 86 sides Subi and EF where good sides but below SF80,Cmt81,SD82.

A heap of the points that south kicked in that epic grand final were shots from the boundary, outside 50, and under extreme pressure so it wasn't exactly all poor kicking
