Don't mean to go off topic folks.
Wafl attendances were great in Twenty 09, 10 and 11. And twenty 12 interest was also up there. After that period, overall interest has gone downhill because of the obvious, well publicised happenings. So much so, that we witnessed twenty 16 as one of the worst years in history! Which is nothing to be proud about! The majority of mainstream media outlets also need to be taking some of the blame! For example, noticed abc radio AGAIN with no coverage of the footy this weekend. Why not!!?? How does that help people in the rural areas stayed interested in the Wafl?
Not surprised interest is on the slide!

Don't worry your not the only one that gets around the venues, I attended a hell of a lot of games during that period and some seasons there never missed one. But so what, guessing and gossip mean jack.

Best to base your opinion on recorded facts rather than myopic anecdotal myth which is what you are clearly doing.

We could all make shit up, but at the end of the day it counts for sfa without evidence.

Don't forget a few other factors that occurred at that time.

1. The AFL has introduced more teams meaning more games need to be broadcast by radio stations, leaving less time for WAFL broadcasts.
2. WA had a financial boom, families and younger crews were flushed with cash, so could afford at day chucking back VBs on the hill at Basso or a SSB at Subi on top of a day at the Eagles, now everyone is doing the elephant ears and staying home with a bong or in subis case a hot milo.

Only hope is the complete winding up of the current WAFC model.

Unless the WAFL finds some way of going it alone - it faces extermination.

Just read the changes as outlined in The West. Should we be surprised? No. Should we be DISGUSTED and DISAPPOINTED? A RESOUNDING YES.

See link:

www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/wafl-align...345fab1e9a72b0638052

Reading between the lines the only thing that I mentioned that doesn't appear to be true is that it will be a 6 team colts' competition.

It is patently clear to me that the implication of the WAFC taking over control of the Colts' competition is that all games will be played at one venu (most likely a revamped WACA ground) and whilst the players might wear the WAFL clubs' jumpers that will be all that there is with respect to any relationship with the clubs.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the WAFL clubs accept this.

Did the Boston group have any idea that the Swan Districts Football Club have a senior and reserves' women's team and a girls' youth? FURTHER does the WAFC have any idea that Swan Districts Football Club have a senior and reserves' women's team and a girls' youth?

As they said in the Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister books: don't hold an inquiry unless you know the outcome in advance.

the 18 round competition: which stakeholder thinks that is a good idea? Any of the WAFL clubs? Any of the footballers who will not unreasonably be peeved with a 10% cut in their pay based on the 10% reduction in games? Whilst it was not a particularly enjoyable season last year for Swans' supporters did we want to cut out 2 chances of us winning a game last season? Now let me think which stakeholder wanted an 18 round season?

I could go through further recommendations individually but it can best be summarised by the conclusion that it is nothing more than an empire building and power grab by the WAFC that will do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to ensure the long term viability of the WAFL competition and clubs.

If Gavin Taylor or any of the WAFC commissioners read this or are told about this I respectfully suggest you go along to Leederville Oval or the other WAFL matches today and get the views of the ACTUAL WAFL supporters about this base EMPIRE BUILDING exercise. I know that will come as a singular shock to ACTUAL want the views of the WAFL supporters as it didn't seem to be a requirement of the company undertaking the review. And please don't mention the online survey that lacked any mention of the host club alignment or Subiaco's financial strength (and Subiaco please don't construe that as a sledge of Subiaco - it was mentioned in the context of the BCG having a survey that would suit the conclusions and recommendations required).

Whilst I haven't proofread my above comments, I hope that all readers of those comments come to the conclusion that in my opinion the review and recommendations are a disgrace and do nothing to redress the problems we have in the WAFL; rather they will exacerbate the demise of the WAFL. As for Gavin Taylor in the interests of the owners of this site I will refrain from comment other than to repeat the maxim: if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything.

Finally I urge all WAFL supporters, members and parents of current, future or past colts' players to speak to their respective club's president and members of their boards to request that they fight for the retention of the colts' competition in its current format.

For those who may not be aware Swans for many seasons now provide, at no cost to those attending, a morning tea at half-time of the colts' match for both Swans' and the visiting club's colts' parents, friend and supporters. Whllst this may be a small gesture it does indicate that Swans value those involved in the colts' competition. If other clubs also offer the same please post same to that effect.

PS How appropriate that we WAFL supporters
are reading this on April's Fools Day.

PPS All WAFL supporters enjoy the 2017 season, it may to all intents and purposes, be the last WAFL season.

So after all we are going to be forced into AFLWA - to get the Victorian dollar , I thought as much
Colts still aligned to clubs but nothing to do with them - absurd , transfer fees straight to AFLWA hahahaha jesus , you mean keep handing it to the debt basket in Mandurah they created in 1996/97
Royalty model to be scrapped & another in it's place - all the coin will stay in VFL hands now , that is in writing - bleed the competitor in the market dry

Then deliver that the answering savior is women's footy & colts to be played in the prime time slots , while equalising the league with meagre handouts

And these imbeciles wasted 350k on this shit - an anti-community action aimed at bolstering some arsehole national league , a victorian parody charading as it's own little national league

One thing is we know when the stand alone teams enter what is left of the WANFL - in 2021 - they're skint due to the new stadiums they've bought , oh that's right the royalties will be re-jigged

The WAFC hiring the coaches fark me jobs for the boys in purple circles
