Womens games as curtain raisers? I hope not as the standard is absolute rubbish compared Colts, ressies snd League that should be played afterwards or on another day and let them draw their own crowd not sail in on the coat tails of high level footy. Sheesh soon there will be a mixed comp
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Also, note I will not be revealing the source of this rumour and I am not in a position to confirm the veracity or otherwise of this rumour. Nor will I be providing an opinion on the suggested changes.

The suggested changes as told to me for next year are:

(i) there will be a standalone colts' competition independent of the WAFL clubs;

(ii) the reserves' competition in the WAFL will no longer be played before the league, but at some other unspecified time; and

(iii) in the place of the reserves game there will be a women's match instead.

Cheers mate - good to see you post firstly!

Only thing I got to add to the dead out there is:

Just keep feeding the Victorians by viewing the telecasts & paying a mint in attending the VFL shit , it gives them power & the cash to feed the Footscrays , North Melbournes , Fitzroys & new clubs and all the other dead shit kept floating
Who pays - the dead idiots & grassroot clubs that got it to where it is
the sickest thing is they know 7 out of 10 WA households will do exactly that every weekend.
Jesus if staging womens matches at halftime is the answer soccer & NRL must be laughing it's guts out atm

Late Edit: Oh and keep paying that farkwit slimy McLauchlan 1.4 or 1.5 million a year to look like Virgil from the Thunderbirds

If what we all suspect that indeed this report will be virtually the final nail in the WAFL coffin I hope it is forever recorded who was ultimately responsible for the end of a proud 132 year old football competition....some would have also been complicit and still have blood on their hands for the complete destruction of another proud football league that being the vfa.

Anyone see Pav's presentation on his thoughts on change for the future on 9 news last night? Fark me. The only thing I agree with is to change the draftee age to 19 or 20yo. He said he wasn't ready when he got drafted and could have done with that extra year or two away from the afl system when he was young...

BC's right, the cost of playing the ressies at a different time and venue would be prohibitive, FMD the commission hasn't got or wont spend any money promoting the game so why would they spend money on a totally self destructive idea ... hang on ... self destructive? I think I just answered my own question.

Also the ressies has been renamed as the development league so is that part of the separation idea. As for womens games as the curtain raiser, I wont be getting there early to watch that where I will for a ressies game. They are totally carried away with the womens game, the women have been playing in their own comps for many years and now have a national comp pathway, why try and fuckup a historic comp by further negative tampering. When will the AFL start asking for attendance fees to womens games so they can start to pay their way, that will be a reality check for all concerned, their attendances will halve. The WAFC is devoid of any real and constructive ideas, it's driven by a succession of thought bubbles all lacking any substance or sustainability. Oh for a rich benefactor to start up a "Packer" style comp, I'm sure the 7 WAFL clubs would support it.

Unfortunately there has been a corporation in place that has managed to crop just about everything off the top shelf , reaped in enormous TV dollars and spent it either in Victoria , in Sydney to bolster Victoria , or marketing itself as the only thing out there.
and the well is starting to dry

It would start shitting giant bricks if those TV ratings slipped & attendances slowed in key places

I rarely watch free to air (and it would seem for very good reason) and obviously didn't see this interview on 9 but does anyone else find it strange they would ask a South Australian born, bred & reared person who is now the vfl pa president for his thoughts on the future of the WAFL?

Very wooden on TV He is not good viewing. We put these football greats on such a pedestal unfortunately their word is law in some circles.
