We haven't much onfield success since '79,but if you have access to our current finances that prove we are a financial Basketcase, could you share them with us please? ;)

I checked out the 77 season , your crowds weren't that great even then.

And the 70 GF attendance was ordinary , yet when we played WP , EF we along with them BROKE and SET NEW records.

I don't know if you are aware that the 70 GF was a wet day and therefore the attendance would have been affected.

excuses excuses...was well aware!

Was 76 or 77 records????

Nowadays it's dropped to about one hundred diehards, very sad for me to see. The Bulldogs and WP always seemed to have good numbers through the years too.

I agree , I have been going for near on 50 Yrs, EP was always very big, WP and SF had huge followings and also a strong rivalry...

Very true Cess also in 1980 it wasnt a great day weather wise and the crowd figure was enormous considering the 2 tier stand was under construction at the time thereby reducing the amount of tickets/seats available by a considerable amount that should be acknowledged.

The weather in 1980 was fine, the Two Tier was under construction probably knocked a few thousand off the crowd, but once again SD failed to be involved in any record breakers! Regardless the SF turnout that day was bigger than Swans, even including your overweight dancing girls.

Wishful thinking WAG the only thing that can help save dwindling WAFL crowds and interest is having a strong Swan Districts & Perth with their big parochial supporter bases.
Someone laughingly posted on here some time back that when the Fremantle teams were strong the WAFL is strong  well we have both sides flying this year and the crowds are around 20% down on last years low figures and are headed for all time lows and it's no surprise when factoring in Perth & Swans are 2nd last & last on the ladder!

Yeah right , you obviously havent checked Perths attendance records, if they didnt have any big numbers back then , they sure wont have many now.

And Sdfc have deserted the wafl in droves this year, take Subi and the Freo clubs out and there arent many left.

if sdfc are so great crowd wise, how come attendances peaked in 2009 and dropped in 2010 when your mob won the gf?

Thank god for freo derbies its the last thing the wafl has left.

The Freo Derby is the only real Derby, you can't deny the fact that the 2nd largest crowd ever at Subiaco oval was the Freo derby GF in 79

78 they shut the gates and plenty missed out. That era of WAFL football that continued in the early 80's was unbelievable.

Larry I do agree EP had a massive following before the latest instalment of the alignment disenchanted many old time Royals.
The SD vs EP games in the early 80s will live with me forever with massive crowds at both Basso & Perth Oval and a atmosphere that only came close in finals & our fixtures vs WP & SF at that time in the games I attended which was every week!
Even our finals vs EP at Basso in 2010 & 2013 have been the closest atmosphere to those late 70s early 80s era.

So are you saying that Percy Johnson- who has seen more football across the eras than any of us combined is wrong with his assessment that for the WAFL to be strong it needs a strong Eastern corridor? = Swans & Perth
