South have been there since 1899! and are located in the South Fremantle zone, , the geographic locality of South Fremantle is located about 200 meters perhaps less from the Oval and Clubhouse

We have not shifted to Cockburn had that occurred a change of name would make sense , quite frankly I cannot see what your on about, comparing the two, Freo Oval is in Freo ... Is West Perth in Joondalup???? not even close to an argument wtf???

If South had moved to Cockburn or elsewhere several years ago, I would have no issue at all with a smart renaming for commercial , marketing and membership reasons, it makes perfect sense.

Im telling you my view and if they became the Cockburn Bulldogs based in Cockburn I wouldnt mind at all, the past doesnt pay the bills, its about the here and now and the future and thats coming from someone whos Grandfather played in a premiership side and whos Great Grandfather was a club official so dont lecture me about history boyo!

Not a bad idea mate plus from over there the viewing from the Queen Victoria Stand might actually be closer to the playing arena! :silly:

It was seriously talked about quite a few years ago , and was looked it closely , decades later the Dockers have made the move out there, they will abandon Fremantle Oval and a whole new future will start when EF move back to a redeveloped Fremantle Oval, they real question is , are two WAFL clubs sustainable in the long term future, possibly not, would I support a merger if it meant a stronger, more financial viable richer Fremantle WAFL based club, as opposed to both folding - absolutely I would!

The only answer to that is that 117 Years of SOUTH FREMANTLE History us up for grabs.
You'd cop Cockburn?Seriously!

As for being a mind reader, what makes you think WEST PERTH members will sell their club down the River fir a few egotistical individuals?

125 Years?Seriously?!

what West Perth do is ultimately up to them, all I can say is I understand the change if it happens and where DC is coming from - as already stated...

Already explained my view on SFFC if it happened..and yep I would , Cockburn Bulldogs running around in the Red V still would be my team. no question. Already explained about history and my family links - so don't lecture me!

Grassy is a dinosaur who needs to evolve or see his beloved club and the WAFL competition face extinction.

100 years ago the vast majority of Perths population (~100k) lived within 5km of Perth, a few km of Fremantle or along the Swan.

We now have over 2 million residents that stretch from Mandurah to Yanchep and east to the hills but Grassy can't fathom that clubs also need to move and entrench themselves in younger developing new areas. Old clubs in old areas with old supporters arent going to help the WAFL club's survive.

Would you rather have a club with 100+ years die a slow death but stay at its traditional home or move to a new venue and begin to write the next chapter in a clubs long history?

For too long the WAFL has survived on WAFC handouts and continue to fail to be self-sustaining. WAFL clubs get $600k annually from the WAFC but they charge Colts and Ressies players up to $500 a season to play whilst paying some League players $1000+ a week.

We see massive drop off in participation after Yr 7 and after Year 10 and again in 18 year olds. WAFL colts programs take in 100+ young men each preseason to tell the majority they're not good enough and many of these players stop playing.

The model is broken, it's time to have a serious look at how to fix it from top to bottom so that Football in this state stands a chance to last another 100 years.
